Funniest assumptions people have made

Valerie, on January 12, 2017 at 12:17 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 32

Hey all!

We all know weddings seem to bring out the crazy in the people around you, so what is the weirdest/funniest/most annoying assumption a guest (or non-guest) has made about your wedding?

Mine is that my youngest brother (a GM) thought he got to just bring whoever he wanted to the wedding! Correcting him did not go well.

How stressful! Why would someone even put that type of stress or pressure on someone else! I think you might be better off telling her in the most respectful way possible that she isn't invited! Either way if you're not a fan of her regardless if she's mad at you or not it shouldn't matter! LOL might be better just for your peace of mind! Could your best friend talk to her? If they live together maybe she has a way of explaining it to her and it would take the pressure off of you a little bit. Just a thought! What a situation!

It is so awkward, I have become a master and changing the topic! LolI'm not worried about her following through, I know she will keep bugging me about it for a while but the wedding isn't for just over a year from now, she isn't one to follow through and I'm sure she will be distracted by something else by then haha

Double awkward! I'll never understand people assuming their invited and having the gull to almost demand it to your face! And I'm sorry about your dad, that's so uncomfortable for your aunt to bring up

I have an ex roommate from University who I was never very close with, not nearly close enough for me to ever expect to be invited to her wedding if she was getting married! my best friend still lives with her so I have seen her a few times recently... her best lines have been "I better be sitting by your bar" and her saying very seriously "I'm invited right? I better be on your guest list, if not ill crash your wedding" 😂😂 makes it a little hard to go to my best friends house when this other girl is interrogating me about her (nonexistent) wedding invite!!

Even before I was engaged a former coworker (4 years ago) and I ran into each other at Walmart. She was asking if I was engaged yet and then said "I better be invited". The worst part was she didn't even notice I deleted her off of Facebook months ago.
Also, our wedding date is 2 days after my father's birthday. So when I announced the date on Facebook his sister commented saying how nice it was to have it close to his birthday. I haven't spoken to my father in 3-4 years... it's actually going to be a sucky birthday for him since he won't get to play the role of FOB.

My MOH mostly is sooo helpful and her ideas are wonderful but more traditional. So the topic of flowers was on the table and I love real but I also love brooch as a keepsake. I'm also the type who sees it as if you love to see beautiful flowers but remember the old saying
"If you love a flower, don’t pick it up.
Because if you pick it up it dies and it ceases to be what you love.
So if you love a flower, let it be.
    Love is not about possession.
    Love is about appreciation."
Her assumption was that I would use real and she keeps saying oh I would definitely go with real. I understand and appreciate her opinion however I do send pics from Pinterest of brooch bouquets lol and diy videos.

The assumption we received was about being cheap when getting services from vendors from a family member and my flowes are plastic. I corrected them what we can afford and my flowes are silk not plastic.

Funny assumption so far......When my aunt in Portugal asked me if I could change the date to June 2017 from May 2018 so her and my uncle and another nephew could go watch formula one race!!!!!!! Oh and back when I was thinking of doing my invites online , a guest was stating they wouldn't come lol

I'm already annoyed with the name change presumption!!! I think I've almost decided to hyphenate... but when people just assume I'm changing my name it really gets under my skin!

That is so bizarre! Well hopefully she understands and will keep in better touch just because and not for a wedding invite!

My sisters all had friends that thought that they would be invited to my wedding or thought that they would get to be their "plus one." (These are girl friends, not guys btw.) My sisters and I are all really close so I know their friends but I didn't think to invite them (and I highly doubt their friends were planning on inviting me to their wedding) and it didn't really make sense since my sisters were all bridesmaids. It was an international wedding so it would have been too much of a hassle to have to entertain their friends while trying to do all the wedding stuff. And I feel like we would have been obligated to include them in things like the rehearsal dinner if they were a "plus one" and we wanted to keep it just close family and wedding party. None of my sisters got plus ones, even my sister who has a long term boyfriend. Sorry not sorry!

Since the wedding, we have had a ton of people assuming that I'm changing my name which drives me crazy to no end! I never said I was going to and haven't updated it on FB so it's safe to assume that I'm not changing my name. It really bothers me that in this day and age everyone still assumes and doesn't think to ask if someone is changing their name. Last month, the holiday cards started rolling in addressed to Mr. and Mrs. so I made a nice FB post that said "Holiday card season is upon us so I just wanted to let my friends and family know that no I am not changing my last name since I got married. Everyone is different so please ask and don't assume! And no Collin didn't change his name either. Smiley winking Thank you!" Everyone was really supportive so I'm glad I said something and one of his cousins sent us a Christmas card addressed to "The Collin, The Sam and The Belle." (our dog) I thought it was really sweet!

That we would be married in a church- My mom and FH's grandmother were surprised that we were going any route but church....It surprised me that they were surprised! My mom knows my thoughts on religion (I don't think much of it at all) , and FH wasn't even aware that he had been baptized as a child until his Grandmother told him. It would be just plain weird!

Also the no bridal party seems to raise eyebrows.

I have also found it really touching the number of people who were happy for us- maybe not surprising, it was just really, really nice.

For me it was one of my old friends in Windsor. We used to be best friends as kids but then I moved a whole bunch of times and ended up living in 6 different cities and so we grew apart as we lived far away from each other. We don't talk anymore, but as soon as I got engaged she asked me "I am invited to the wedding right" ... I said well we are inviting mostly family and a few close friends and it isn't in my budget to add more guests and she is married so it would be 2 extra guests not just 1. She said well you should just do what I did and go to city hall and then have a big reception and invite everyone and then started telling me how to do things for my wedding!
