Flowers? Needed or Not?

Megan, on March 24, 2020 at 20:10 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 13

Hey ladies, I've been going back and forth on this. I am not really a flower person so I don't know if I want bouquets at my wedding. There are other things I would prefer to spend the money on and other decor items I would prefer to flowers. I'm wondering in your opinion, would it look weird if we didn't have flowers at the wedding? No bouquets for myself or my bridesmaids, no boutonnieres for the groomsman, no flowers around for decor. If we decide to do flowers, we would go with fake flowers over real ones to save on costs.

A college friend had her bridesmaids carry parasols in aqua and she carried a white one. It was really cool since it was an outside ceremony and while she was waiting, she placed the parasol in front of her and her dad before they walked down the aisle. Then they put them on the floor in front of the head table as added decorations. I was really impressed.

I don't think it would look that weird - my girls and I still had artificial flower bouquets but we skipped out on flowers for boutonnieres as well as tables and decor. I have seen pictures where the girls hold lanterns, umbrellas, hoops, and even puppies - all which looked cute!

It's your wedding, if you want to spend your money on other decor then do it. It's the overall look and feel of the wedding you are going with. We are concentrating on more greenery and candles/light etc then flowers. Be true to you and honestly, I don't think after your wedding people will be talking/remembering you didnt have flowers, it will be on the fabulous time they shared with you your wedding & love

We aren't doing flowers anywhere other than my FH really wants me to have a bouquet for pictures and walking down the aisle. We did shells for a beach theme for center pieces. No one else is going to have flowers. If you like other things use other things!

We didn't do flowers or bouquets for our wedding either. It was kept simple and low cost as the ceremony site had large sized flower pots along the railing to the lake view. The reception was done very simple and elegantly with vase and artificial white floral ball rented. Coloured water beads with LED immersible lights in them per table. You don't need to have flowers if your not comfortable with the idea. A simple concept of corsage/boutonniere to wear as a small size.

That’s not a bad idea. We are getting married in a church so unfortunately the carrying a drink down the aisle won’t fly. We’ve thought about a few things to carry instead.

I had a friend who skipped bouquets. When a relative asked her what she would carry down the aisle she said "nothing, or a gin and tonic" her maid of honor held her drink during the vows and it was so fitting for her personality.

If you don't want flowers then skip them. Bouquets are mostly for the walk down the aisle and photos so they can be a bit of a waste.

Overall it is your wedding, and up to you on the look you want to achieve.

We didn't have any other flowers except for the bridal party. Our bouquets were head table decoration during the reception. We kept the decorations to a minimum as it is really only for us to create a look, many guests don't even notice.

Honestly, put the money towards something else if you are on the fence so you don't look back and wish you did it differently.

There are so many options for fake flowers and bouquets that you can use later instead of doing fresh!

Overall it depends on what you want. You don’t need to do flowers. In my opinion it would be nice to have something to hold as you’re walking down the aisle but you definitely don’t need it.

Yeah! I've been looking into it and my FH and I like the idea of using books, since we are both readers. He is more of a gamer but there are video game books and whatnot. Plus books from a used bookstore are cheaper and can be used all the time. There are lots of options out there.

I don't think its weird at all. I think it is what you want. There are lots of other things you can do instead of flowers for the bouquets, like signs or props. And fake flowers are just as nice!

I don’t think it would be weird. It’s your wedding and your vision girl! I had a friend who’s wedding I was in this past January, and she made bouquets using baby’s breath. She bought the baby’s breath at the grocery store and it was super cost effective and beautiful.
