Flower girl?

Markie, on April 27, 2018 at 20:54 Posted in Wedding ceremony 0 10

My niece is 8 years old and she asked me to be a flower girl. My fiance and I dont want one. We know this will offend my sister- but we think shes too old.

Is there something I can do to include her? (Im opposed to Junior bridesmaids too)

I agree - it's your and your fiancé's day and what you really want is important. We have our older niece and nephew (twins, aged 9) who will not be doing anything in the wedding because they are terribly behaved, and I am horrified at the thought of one of them throwing a fit (kicking, stomping, screaming) in the aisle because they don't get their way about something!

If you don't want one then don't have one. Explain to your sister and niece that this is your wedding vision and that just because your niece has been a flower girl 3 times before does not automatically mean she will always get to be a flower girl. You could ask her to hand our programs or usher people to their seats.

8’s not too old but if you don’t want a flower girl then you don’t have to have one. Explain to your sister you do not want a flower girl and go from there. You don’t have to mention you think she’s too old since that isn’t the only reason.

Markie I think that if she’s been a flower girl three times before then she’s been a lucky girl and doesn’t need to be one again. If you don’t want or need one then don’t. Ask your sister to tell her daughter that it’s not happening. She’s 8 she will get over it. It’s your day don’t stress. Have fun!

Can she just walk down the isle first with a mini bouquet? Then sit at a front seat for the ceremony? I’m working on figuring out how to include my 2 nieces and 3 nephews into our wedding. I think I’ll get them to walk down the isle first, add flowers to a vase at the front, then sit in the first row of seats. My youngest daughter will be 8 so she’ll be the ‘flower girl’ then our 3 teenage daughters will be jr bridesmaids. I’m not labeling the kids anything. They will just walk before everyone else lol

Definitely talk to your sister that you didn't vision a flower girl on your day. I'm sure she'll understand since it's your day.

I think it's best to just tell you sister that you're not having a flower girl or anything. It's your wedding and I agree she's too old to do that alone. Other than the jr bridesmaid there isn't anything I can think of. Your niece is going to have to realize that she can't always be the flower girl eventually. I don't think it's a big deal at all.

She asked on her own because she's been a flower girl 3x and thinks that's what she is in weddings

My niece is 8 and she’s our flower girl but we wanted a flower girl. I think you should just be honest with your sister. Did your niece come up with the flower girl idea on her own or did someone say something to her?
