Florals! So stressed about florals!

Laura, on August 22, 2021 at 15:56 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
Guys I honestly have no idea where to begin when it comes to florals. How did you figure out what to ask for? What you needed vs what was unnecessary/excessive? How did you figure out a budget for florals?

    Hello Laura,
I totally feel you! I had an idea of what colours I would like to have, along with what greenery and add some baby breath.

I then gave one off bridesmaids to look into the floral shops and research their cost and any other information related to it.
I think just look at ideas and see what you would like do have as floral. I used this photo to guide me on what I like…

Pinterest is a great way to start your board for colour, décor and other ideas to build your whole outlook for the day. You can give the florist an idea of what your interested in getting for what budget and how many needed for them to give you different looks. Some receptions I have attended have had 2 different based on how they put for the inner tables and outer tables or alternate tables. The way I came up with the floral is to go artificial as it was rental and the vase too. The cost was way lower and not storing it after so that it would avoid the idea and resale. We went simple with a white floral ball and square vase.

I emailed the florist with pictures of what I liked (Pinterest) and my budget, then met with them in person where they explained what was in season, how much different kinds of flowers would cost, we went over arrangement sizes and what colours I wanted etc. I dunno what all florists are like, but as long as you're fairly flexible with what exact flowers you want they should be able to work with your budget. I had no idea at first but meeting with them did help me.

I'd say just start by picking a florist and emailing them. They will help you figure it out. We picked the same florist my fiance and I go to when we get flowers for our moms and Grandmas, because we like them and wanted to support their business.
I also erred in the minimalist side to keep the costs down and I set my budget for around $500. Boutonnieres, one bridal bouquet, about a dozen tall thin vases with a small arrangement in each. I bought the vases from the dollar store and supplied them to the florist so I didn't have to pay for theirs.

Pinterest!! I knew the style I was going for so found ideas I liked, ran them by my hubby, and then showed the florist when we met. We talked through what she could do for us and it was perfect!!! We wanted greenery only on the tables, with cylinder vases with candles and gold votives. We added some greenery to the cards table, guest bottle, etc. For my bouquet I knew I wanted a big messy (hand tied) bouquet with neutral coloured flowers and a punch of dark (with a winter wedding I simply asked what my options were and she was awesome - roses and dark ranunculus + black scabiosa - these last two were the most expensive parts). My husband wanted blue thistle for his Scottish heritage so we had thistle in the boutennieres and my bouquet. Finally we had a big arrangement on on end of our chuppah which tapered out. We planned to move it for the reception but it was too difficult and was fine where it was haha. All of this (greenery, arch, 7 + 2 small boutennieres, my large bouquet, four medium bouquets and 2 small bouquets) came to $1550+ tax for us (smaller town outside of Ottawa).

My fiance and I talked about what kind of flowers we wanted before we went to our florist. We both agreed on Cali Lilies and Hydranges.
When we went to the florist we told her that we decide on calI lilies for our bouquets boutineers and corsages
But also wanted to add other flowers to make them come together. And for centerpieces we wanted hydranges and to add other pieces to complete it. It was honestly our florist who picked a whole bunch of different items and we went from there. We decided to add berries, leaves and anemone flower to our bouquets boutineers and corsages. We decided to add berries and leaves to the centerpieces. For budget, we decided to go with artificial flowers since it cut the cost by almost 3k. But decidin on how much we were wanting to spend wasn't really a topic. But of course every couple is different and may not want to spend a lot of money of flowers. We spent around 1200 for ours. 10 centerpieces 2 bouquets 6 boutineers and 5 corsages as well as labour, ribbon for our centerpieces and wristbands for the corsages
