Floral delivery costs

Geneviève, on February 2, 2019 at 15:51 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 17

Hi all, I had a question about prices for delivery that I wanted to run by all of you. To preface, we are having a very small affair (25 guests) and a 2 MOHs for us 2 brides and the location is local.

So we met a florist this week to talk consult, and we were told that the delivery/setup cost alone was going to be $400, which was almost the same price for the actual arrangements we planned. I was wondering if this was the norm or if this was a lot. We are shopping around, but I did want to get a second (third, fourth, fifth) opinion before we choose anything.

Thanks everyone!

Considered the option of picking them up and getting your venue to store them in the fridge for you? Every florist charge varies to whom you choose. I can't say if its a norm.

If the cost is less for just the flowers, leaves and baby breath, you are saving the delivery/set up charge in that case.

Foam cut to the size of a vase size putting it together can be easy and fun to have your wedding party together doing this project.

The flowers themselves were around $550, so with delivery and taxes it was going to be almost $1100. Way over my budget, that's for sure.

Luckily, we met with another florist yesterday who was significantly cheaper, so I'm realizing more and more, especially with everyone's additions here, just how costly that pricing was.

    That's a lot.

My florist is probably one of the most expensive, most in demand florist in my area, and she was only going to charge us $100 for setup and delivery fees. Our venue is an hour out of the city, she would have had to put stems of greenery down all the tables, some small arrangements here and there, deliver the girls bouquets, and set up the ceremony decor (a greenery arch hung from the ceremony space rafters).

That's bonkers! Mind if I ask how much your total bill is for florals?

How far are they travelling to deliver these flowers? It seems pretty night to me tbh tho!

That's the thing, I told them right in the store when she mentioned the $400 delivery fee that I'd opt for pick-up, but they still stuck it in the estimate bill, probably just to be safe. There were other things about the meet-up that didn't jive for me so I'll probably just consider someone else at this point.

That is really high! It sounds like a flat rate meant to accommodate weddings further away and with larger demands. It could also be to compensate for staff being away from the store.

There may be wiggle room since you guys are so close and are having a smaller ceremony.

There is a florist in my hometown that has a minimum cost stipulation before tax and delivery fees. They only do flowers for one event at a time so they need to make sure that they are making enough to justify turning down other requests. Maybe your florist is trying to cover a minimum cost too?

That seems really high...does that include set up?
Can you arrange to have them picked up instead?

My delivery, set up cost is only $50!! I would definitely keep looking around because $400 is a ridiculous price if you ask me.

    Wow that is super high.
My florist is in the same city as my venue but she has to travel out of town (20 ish mins to both houses) to deliver. She included delivery into our price.

That does seem really high, considering how much you are getting set up/delivered.

That's what I was thinking too! Ours sounds a lot like yours: we only have the 1 long (or 4 short) boughs of greenery and that's it for setup; just the 4 bouquets and 2 bouts for the dads. Not to mention the venue is within 20kms, so I'm thinking its a flat rate they charge regardless of size.

Wow, that’s high. But I do know that set up charges can be crazy. My delivery fee is $150 and we are an hour from the florist. I’m not getting set up, because it’s only 5 centre pieces that need to be put on the table. The rest is for the wedding party, so no set up needed
