First dance

Tyanna, on May 28, 2018 at 01:50 Posted in Wedding reception 0 14
I need some help with first dance songs!

Ever since I can remember, I've wanted a specific song to be my "wedding song". It's a country song, but my fiancee does not like country music. I'm trying to think of some other songs that maybe we could have instead but he hasn't liked anything so far and my heart just keeps going back to my original song

He is really in to jazz and old school 50's-80's music (Frank Sinatra, that sort of music) and I quite enjoy a lot of those artists but I just can't picture any of them as my wedding song!

What can anyone recommend to do as compromise, or how did you deal in my situation?

How about doing a mash up of two songs put together? (Half Country and half something else?) but you would have to find another song that he likes that goes well with your Country song. This is what we are thkinoing of doing, at least.

Could you compromise with something by Johnny Reid? He's technically still classed as country but his newer stuff is more crooner.

My partner and I are in the same predicament, I like new folk or calm music, she's crazy into swing and jazz. It's really 50s to 80s. But Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader. It's a 90s song with a 70s vibe, lots of fun, nice and light.

Thank you! A large number of those have made it to our "agreeable" list so we may end up with one of them.. I want something a little slower and he wants something a little more fast paced.. gotta find something in the middle haha! Thank you, I'll check out the remaining from your list Smiley smile

My fiance and I will be dancing to Sam Cooke's You Send Me.

A few others that didn't quite make the cut:

Fly Me To The Moon - Frank Sinatra

September Song - Sammy Davis Jr.

Kiss Me - Sixpence None The Richer (a bit fast, but so sweet)

Dream a Little Dream of Me - Chicago

Somewhere Only We Know - Keane

You've Made Me So Very Happy - Blood Sweat & Tears

    Love's Holiday - Earth Wind & Fire

    Hope this helps!

I had a similar problem with my father-daughter dance song. I found a song where the lyrics perfectly described mine and my dad's relationship and when my dad first heard it he teared up. but, it's country and neither one of us like country. We found an acoustic version that was less "twangy." In the end, my brother's best friend has offered to perform it live for our wedding (he's an amazing guitarist and vocalist) and is able to tweak the sound for it to be more to our taste in music.

Picking a song is tricky ! You like that song, are there different versions ? Maybe one would appeal more to him?
My fiancé and I are going with an ed sheeran song (not the usual songs) but we chose the acoustic version, sounds a lot nicer.

Picking music can be really tough.

My partner picked our first dance song, and it's nice but I don't love it. I more so am thinking that I'll remember being with him more than anything.

I'd say, find a song you like even if you don't LOVE it.. don't put too much pressure on the song! If this is something really important to you, then tell him that.

When in doubt, go classic. Beatles have lots! OR... check out randitions of songs done accoustic, eg - "you're my best friend" by Queen, but preformed by another artist. Just make sure you pick a song with a beat you can dance to comfortably. Eg. Not too/ slow too fast.

    Thank you!

I've come up with lots since my original one and none of the others are country. I left the genre behind after the first song knowing he doesn't like it but we just have such different tastes in music! This is pretty much the only thing we can't agree or settle on. I'm sure we will come to a decision but I think its gonna be a tough one Haha!

Thank you, I will have to try that. I don't think that he hates the song but he definitely doesn't love it. He has said he will consider it but keeps trying to come up with other suggestions too. I've come up with a few really good ones but he just doesn't love them! This is one of the only things we cant seem to agree on pr st least settle on so far!

I had a whole bunch of songs that I wanted to be my first dance song forever, but my fiance also veetoed them all. We ended up with something we both love that I never would have chosen on my own.

Maybe just leave both music genre's behind. Maybe have each of you pick your top three (force yourselves to think outside the box) and present them to eachother.

It's also important not to put too much pressure on the song. The dance will still be wonderful no matter what Smiley smile

Oh no! Could you maybe say to him that you really want this as your first dance song, and that maybe later during the night you could each choose a song to “dedicate” to the other person. Maybe if that still doesn’t work, choose a dog that you both agree upon for 1st dance and your dedication song can be the one you really want. My FH didn’t like my first dance choice either but then I made him just try dancing to it and other songs that I knew he hated more and he finally agreed to my choice. Once he got to pick some songs and didn’t like dancing to those, I think he understood why I liked my song so much
