Female groomsman?

This is going to sound ridiculous. I know ladies have been in a groom's wedding party for quite some time, but this is a bit of an odd situation. We had an even number of bridesmaid & groomsmen (2 bridesmaids are co-workers of mine, and 2 groomsmen are her immediate family. Just for clarity there are 3 each of bridesmaids & groomsmen). I just found out a 3rd potential groomsman is turning down the offer for his own reasons. There aren't many other guys that I would want in my wedding party but there are 1 or 2 female co-workers who I would gladly ask to step into the role. I haven't discussed this with my fiancee yet so I have not decided on any course of action. What does everyone think here? Would it present issues during the processional/recessional or during photos? I think there are ways around that but I don't know for sure.

After discussing this with my fiancee I think she is more open to this possibility. The situation is really that I am not really that close to the other guys at work (there's more girls than guys where I work). Most of them were really there for me & supportive of me when I got out of an abusive marriage a few years back, which is why I want to include some of them in the wedding party (the others would be invited as guests).

My husband is having a female best man because they have known each other for years and I’m totally okay with that. (vow renewal)

My advice would be to ask your fiancée.

Ohhhhh yes, that would be a challenging one.
That was like my plan to have my sister as the DJ (as she wanted to and loves music). But she’s in the bridal party. So we had to find another person in the wedding to be the DJ. You two will get to choose the best choice that works for that special day! 👏🏾

Thanks again Tunisha, we are certainly not ruling it out at this point. Another possibility was my fiancee's 2nd brother (her oldest brother is in the wedding party) but he is MC'ing the wedding reception which would make things difficult.

Oh wow!! That’s an amazing option that was brought and good possibility as well should it be accepted. Love it and it’s great to get than done and over with indeed, even if it’s a year away. Agree!! Good luck with the remainder of planning procees to you both!

Thank you Tunisha, we're still discussing it and had come up with a couple of possibilities. Our wedding is still just over a year away but this is something we are trying to get done now. Her daughter (who is in the wedding party) suggested that her future husband (they are getting married 2 weeks before us) might be a good match. I'd thought of that possibility as well.

Honestly, unless your fiancee has legitimate issues with the person you're asking, it's not her place to determine who stands up there with you. And matching photos is not a legitimate concern, in my opinion. The day is as much of a celebration for you as it is for her.
Unless this female co-worker truly did not get along with your fiancee, or you dated her, there's really no reason I can think of where she can veto your choice.

I don’t see it as a problem, it’s what you and your fiancée wants. I would say to communicate this with your fiancée to see what she thinks about that idea.

These days anything is possible to have part of the wedding party. Besides the bridesmaid and groomsmen; groomswoman and maid of groom is happening. You two can have whomever you feel is right and ask them.

Thank you for your input! Right now I am leaning towards having a female groomsman as I am not real close with too many guys (I work in a field where women outnumber men more than 2 to 1). Will have to see what my fiancee thinks of course!

We actually have an uneven number of groomsmen (6) to bridesmaids (5) - I honestly don’t think it matters at all anymore!! I say, Invite whoever you most want to stand beside you - groomsman or woman, and even if the numbers don’t match up at the end of the day, it’s okay

My Fiancé is having a groomwoman! She is a good friend to both of us and he asked if I would be okay with her being on his side and I said of course! I haven't thought too much on logistics for the ceremony but I'm sure it will be easy to figure out! For her outfit she said she would prefer to wear a dress (but would wear a suit if we wanted her to) I figured she could wear a dress in a simular colour to the groomsmen suits. I ordered TONS of grey dress swatches and brought them to the store we are renting suits from and found a pairing I liked together. I looked on Pintrest a bit to see photos with groomswoman and I think they look fine!
