Fake Flowers vs. Real Flowers

Samantha, on November 28, 2017 at 13:05 Posted in Before the wedding 0 24

I am really having a hard time deciding between purchasing fake flowers or real flowers.

Pros for Fake Flowers:

-Less expensive

-Memento

-Will last for the whole day

-Reusable (I have 3 sisters)

Pros for Real Flowers:

-Beautiful

-Fresh

-Attractive in Photos

Cons for Fake Flowers:

-Can be seen as cheap or tacky

Cons for Real Flowers:

-May not last the whole day

-Attracts the Bees

These are just a few of the pros and cons that went through my head during the preliminary planning.

If any one has any suggestions on a good place to purchase fake flowers in Canada, please send my way!

XO

I used fake flowers to make all of my bouquets and I don't think you will be able to tell! I purchased them from Michaels and they always have sales and coupons going for that store. I saved a ton of money and had fun making them with my mom. I love how they turned out.

I know a couple of people that have used fake flowers at their wedding and were quite happy with them:

    - My mom rented her fake bouquet and decorations, back in the day. She was quite happy with the end result.

    - My boss used fake flowers in her wedding and bought them all at Michael's. She said they have a pretty good selection.

I'm also thinking of using fake flowers in my wedding, so I've been looking at a company called Afloral ( www.afloral.com ). They have a wide selection of flowers, greenery, pre-made bouquets and a bunch of "how-to" articles and videos to help you achieve the look you want.

We are getting fake ivy for the reception decorations just so we can have everything prepared and put together well ahead of time. We are debating using fake flowers to go with the ivy but only if we can find some nice looking ones. My grandma has decorated a lot of her house with fake flowers but you would never know so if we can get some like that we will save money with them.

Another con to real flowers if any guests are allergic to them, just something to keep in mind, especially for spring/summer weddings.

That's gorgeous. My favorite I have seen for paper was done out of sheet music and rhinestones. Music background. I wish I was more talented. Your lucky to have a mom so talented like that!

I'm doing fake. I actually am doing paper flowers. I think they look really nice and they last forever. I was going to order them from Etsy, but my mom decided to try her hand at them. She's doing all the bouquets and the men's boutonnieres.

She bought everything she needed at Michael's. I would suggest you look there or a craft store for better quality fake flowers. You can also look on Etsy for already made bouquets.

I'd say both. You can get your real flowers preserved and the look a real is beautiful. Then get fake for if you do the bouquet toss because obviously you don't want to throw away your beautiful real flowers.

Why not rent as an alternative and i did the same for our wedding being part of the vase i rented too. Real flowers may cost more for non seasonal as oppose to seasonal. No damage to worry about and dying out on the of event.

It depends on the look you're going for. Some fake flowers (like crepe paper ones) look very vintage and cool! I went fresh because my in-laws gifted us with our flowers for the wedding from a local florist. I also liked having fresh since I really didn't want to deal with having to figure out what to do with the flowers after the wedding.

We are doing real because I can pick apart fake flowers so easily as I hate them. I find that they look tacky. Plus, I worked as a florist and am obsessed with fresh.

I am doing fake! I got some really nice ones from other brides on a wedding Facebook group! I am not doing a whole lot on the tables just one in a floating glass and got those from the dollar store and they look pretty good- but you won't notice the quality as it will be dark!

If you're feeling creative you can make your own fake flowers that look real! We used real flowers for the bouquets but for the boutonieres and corsages my friend made them herself. They were super cost effective and so beautiful, they looked pretty realistic! She just used Pinterest and followed the examples for making your own crepe paper flowers

There are fake flowers that look real, they just cost a little more. My friend used dollar store flowers at her wedding, and they looked cheap. But, there are flowers that look, and even feel, real. I have a pot with silk orchids, and they look and feel like real ones. We decided to use real flowers but are only doing bridal bouquets; none of our other decor will be floral.

I'm doing fake. At one of the weddings I attended, the hotel put the flowers in the freezer....and they died. The hotel staff had to scramble to get very similar flowers if they didn't get identical. So to avoid the stress I'm doing fake

I’m going with fake flowers. My FHs aunt made the bouquets for my MILs wedding, and she’s offered to do the same for us. We aren’t going with intricate arrangements, so I was even thinking about just doing it myself before she offered. I was a little worried about how the fake flowers would look, but I got samples of each of the flowers I plan on using and they look pretty good to me. You’ll only be able to tell really close up, if at all. I can’t wait to see what they look like when they’re all done

They will only look fake if you use low quality flowers. These are the faux flowers I'm using. They look, feel and smell real! Not cheaper than fresh flowers but they'll last forever.

The main reason I didn't go with fake flowers was because I am not crafty enough to put it all together to look pretty like a florist would!
