Engraving on Wedding Band?

Msss, on May 11, 2020 at 23:16 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 6

Hello everyone,

in March our beloved dog passed away from a worsening heart condition. We were devastated and continue to grieve his loss. Part of our grief stems from the fact that he won't be physically with us on our special day. He was - and still is - such a big part of our loves. He taught us how to love unconditionally and will always be a huge part of our love story. We want to honour his memory and include him in our wedding ceremony somehow. We've been discussing having my wedding band engraved with his name or initials. I never considered it before all of this and I miss him a lot. Any thoughts? Is it too strange? I know we won't regret it but I've also never heard of anyone doing this sort of thing.

Do what is right for you! I completely understand where you are coming from, our dog passed away December 31, 2018 and it guts me that she wont be at our wedding next year (she was only 6 when she passed). We currently have two dogs (one from before our other dog passed and one new one). We are doing 3 signature drinks at cocktail hour and naming them after each dog, as well as napkins with the three of them on it that says "we do too". Will some family members think it is ridiculous? Absolutely! Do I care? Not one bit. It is important to us to include our pups, they are our family, living or not. So personally I say if it makes you happy, go for it!!

So sorry about your loss! Animals are very precious. Maybe include part of his dog collar into your bouquet? Have the tag around the bottom of the flowers. But also engraving isn’t weird. Animals are family, there’s nothing wrong in loving family

If you want to and it feels right and you know you won't regret it then go for it! If you're hesitating you can also look into memorial jewelry for your pet, if you think you might want to keep the wedding rings only about each other. But if this doggo was special to your relationship and this move feels right, don't worry about it being uncommon.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Pets are different for everybody. Some say - a pets a pet, while others say they are their kids.

For example, my DH's aunt is willing to pay THOUSANDS of dollars for surgeries on her dog because he is like her son. Meanwhile I grew up like my Father who is from the farm - it's a dog... so if it breaks a leg... it's a dumb dog. Doesn't mean we wouldn't grieve over the loss of that dog, but we have different POV when it comes to how far we are willing to go for them.

If it feels right to you and you know you won't regret it, then I say that it's very sweet of you to include him in your rings.

If it means a lot to you then it isn't strange. Our pets are family in a way that past generations don't always understand!

You can honor their memory the way you would anyone you've lost, like a photo charm in your bouquet or saving their spot in the reception hall (maybe a place setting with their bowl or collar?).
