Overrated to me, but I'm biased because the photos of our actual proposal/engagement were incredible. So opted out

    Underrated!
The biggest plus to engagement photos is getting to work with/vet your photographer before your actual wedding. If the engagement photos turn out horribly (and you haven't signed anything yet), you still have the option of finding another photographer.

We're using ours for our wedding website, because there aren't many nice photos of us together as one of us is always taking the photo! LOL!

Underrated - tbh, I used to roll my eyes when I saw them in my friend's Facebook feeds before I got engaged. But now that I've had them done, I'm actually SO glad 1) we had a chance to get to know our photographer ahead of time and practice being comfortable in front of the camera and 2) we actually have some nice professional photos of the two of us. My fiance gets red eye with almost every picture so when I was looking for pictures to put on our wedding website before we took our engagement photos I could barely find any that didn't have something wrong with them in some way lol.

    Underrated.
For couples who are not used to being in front of the camera in this way is very beneficial. I was used to it from dancing for so many years, but my husband was not. So our engagement pictures have us the opportunity to see how our photographer worked before the big day and get him comfortable in front of the camera

50/50...if its not part of the photography package don't bother, if it's a part of the package they are worth doing. I know how my photographer works now and its one less stressor!

Underrated. I loved having these done. They gave us extra faith in our photographer.

There are definitely some parts of engagement photos that are overdone, but we just skipped those poses!

Underrated, the idea of getting to know how your photographer works before the big day is great.

Underrated! I love our engagement photos and it's really neat to look back on them since my hair was a deep red when we did them!

Underrated. They’re a great way to know what to expect on the day with how your photographer works and their personality

Underrated. We didn’t use ours for anything but I’m so glad we did them. It gave us time to get to know our photographers and their shooting style. And it gave us an idea what to expect the day of the wedding.

Underrated, I think it's such a great way to get comfortable getting photographed as a couple. You will see which poses look best and it'll help your photographer get to know you as a couple before the wedding

Underrated, especially for a long engagement. Aside from the fact that we barely had any good photos before we got them done, they were a really great way to get to know our photographer and shake off any nerves of being in front of the camera. If we hadn't done our photo session, I think that would've just been an added level of stress on the wedding day. Plus they were awesome to use for save the dates.

I guess overrated since they aren't necessary. i'm really happy we got them though because I love our's and it's nice to have some really good photos.

I agree with lots of the other ladies, they definitely aren't necessary but my FH and I barely had any photos together so the engagement photos gave us some really nice photos together.

It was also a good chance for us to know our photographer.

Hmm that is a tough one, I don't think they are necessary, but that being said, I LOVE our engagement photos and with a long engagement its been nice to have photos to look back on and share. However, once we get married, not sure what we will do with all the engagement photos haha.

I don't think engagement photos are overrated or underrated. I think it's a great idea to get comfortable in front of the camera and see your photographers style before hand with you in the pictures. I am also making a photo album/guestbook with my engagement pictures so we will have that to cherish forever

Overrated - looking back now... not needed. But nice to get to know your photographer!
