Engagement Photoshoot - Attire

Tunisha, on June 28, 2021 at 16:54 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 21

Hello Beautiful people,

Our engagement shoot is coming up in two weeks! Yaaay, exciting! 😁👏🏾 My fiancé and I are planning our outfits. We’re thinking to match at least. I’m thinking if it’s overrated but I love the idea of having at least a little speck of colour from one another. Haha!

For those that have completed their engagement photoshoot. How did you decide on what to wear?

For those that haven’t yet done their shoot or will be getting it done. What are you planning on wearing?

Oh yeah, I didn’t think of the Step 2 in all this. I’m so over this Covid situation.

Since the place is opening now, he’s telling us that it’s best to get it done during the week instead of the weekend. Instead of being where it’s crowded. So because we work, he’s telling us after 3pm during a week day. We still have sometime to plan. Thanks for sharing the information.

Thank you for sharing the information Brittany! That sounds like a great idea and time of the year to get some photos taken. I was trying to get my fiancé to do second outfit as well. But he wants to wear dress pants for the second. Also, he doesn’t know how to dress, 😂😂 So I am trying my best to set some outfits together.

I wish you and your fiancé a lovely photoshoot!!

I believe Step 2 doesn't allow for indoor photography studio services and any other indoor spaces like hotels will not only require a permit but a mask. If you're taking them in two weeks time, I think you have to stay outside.

Did your photographer suggest to shoot in the morning, before the sun gets too bright and hot? If so, I wouldn't worry too much about the heat.

I haven't gotten mine done yet but I am getting it done this September, so I plan on wearing a full length with sleeve dress in a few darker colors like navy blue or burgundy, for my second outfit I am going with a t-shirt and nice cardigan with a pair of jeans and boots to go with it. It really depends around the time of year. Since we are doing a mid-September in the evening photoshoot, I don't want it to look too summery. My fiancé will most likely be wearing jeans and have 2 different shirts, one more formal to go along with my dress and the other more casual to go with my other outfit that is also more casual.

    Hello Hank,
Yes, we’re looking into the fact that it’s summer time, the patios are open and it’s so darn hot. We’re having them done in two weeks.

Now we’re trying to figure out if to have it done indoor with backdrop by our photographer. Even if it’s with less options, I’m thinking to use him again sometime next year for more casual photos. This is such a challenge especially with your SO is a groomzilla. 😂😂

Where downtown are you thinking of going? Because it's Canada Day weekend and with patios in full swing, I would definitely plan my spots carefully if you're trying to avoid crowds or not be obstructive to pedestrians.

Thank you!!! Yes, it's been a very long time. It seems just like yesterday though! We did wait a year and a half to get the photos done. We weren't going to have them originally but I had entered a contest through Facebook for a free engagement shoot and we won so you can say it was meant to be!! Our photographer was amazing and gave us great tips for our wedding. It sucks though we can't have her for our wedding since we already booked with another photographer that is based out of Kelowna. If it wasn't for covid we would be married already!!!! But we're very hopeful for next summer Smiley heart

This is what my fiance and I wore for our engagement photos back in 2019. Can't believe that in July will be 2 years since we got them taken!

    Love the photos! 👏🏾😍

Ah that’s a great advise Carmel! Thank you sharing for sharing that. Because I can’t really do heels. Hahaha. I was thinking to walk in flats until it’s time to take the photos and then put on the heels. This is the first official* professional outdoors photos we will be taken together and I want to make sure it looks guudeeee! Haha

That’s a great to that you’re able to have two different photoshoot vibe as well. And in this case you get to work with your photographer for when it’s time for the wedding photos!

Thank you for sharing. I love the dress idea, nice and summery option as well. Can’t wait to see the second photoshoot. Hehe!

😂😂 This is too funny! Of course not Hank! 😂😂 Unless they want to be lumberjacks!

But yes, this is exactly what I’m thinking. I believe I will let him wear his African attire and I find a matching dress. Thanks Hank! 🙏🏾🙂

    Dear Tunisha,
For your African print set, it’s definitely okay to match as it just makes it pop haha. If you’re having a second outfit, I’d advise to wear something really comfortable and I’d also say neutral colors tend to look so great in engagement photoshoot. If you’re having a second outfit, you can wear a clothing that compliments each other. It doesn’t necessarily have to match so there’s diversity. However, if you want to match for both outfits
as that best describes y’all style, it’s definitely cool too 🤗

The best advice we were given is to be comfortable - wear something that we were both physically and mentally comfortable in and felt like us. So that's what we did! We definitely worked with our setting as well. (We got married in this exact spot during the second Ontario lockdown 🥰)

We had an engagement shoot done in February. I'll attach a picture!

We are also getting another engagement shoot done in August with our wedding photographer. For that shoot I plan on wearing a white dress that had a floral pattern then my fiance will wear a shirt that goes well with the colours in the floral pattern and probably shorts.
Something like this is what I'm thinking for a dress:Engagement Photoshoot - Attire 5

One caveat I will add is to let the setting guide but not necessarily dictate. Just because a couple is getting their engagement shoot done in the woods, doesn't mean they need to dress like lumberjacks lol. Using contrast is a great way to add personal flair and style to your shoot.

And because you brought up African prints, I think engagement shoots are a great opportunity to incorporate particular cultural outfits, especially if they're not making an appearance at the wedding.

Lovely photo of you two Hank! 😁
That’s a very good idea to take into consideration the setting of where the photos will be taken.

Yeah, he doesn’t want to wear a suit and that’s fine by me. One of our option: He’s from the DRC and is thinking to wear an African print set (top and pants). So, I have try not to get out out any of the colours or else that won’t work. Haha!

We used the setting to plan our outfits. In our case, we stayed in the downtown area of a major city where architecture and modern aesthetics were a focal backdrop so we thought of what clothes would be suitable for that. Our thinking was, what would we wear if we went on a dinner and concert date downtown. I also purposely kept it casual with a blazer and chinos instead of a full suit because I wanted some contrast with our eventual wedding photos but had my fiancee told me she was wearing a formal gown, I would've switched. We coordinate but actively tried not to match with each other. If she told me she was wearing blue, I would definitely have nixed the blazer for another piece of clothing lol.
