Engagement Photos Next Week!

Brittany, on July 12, 2018 at 20:55 Posted in Before the wedding 0 19

Okay... calling all my beautiful brides out there!!!

We have our engagement photos next week (July 22nd)... We've been engaged since December... but didn't pick a photographer til about March, and then I figured we would wait til nicer weather, since we probably won't have sunshine in our January wedding photos. I maaaaybe also hoped to lose some weight, which I have (20lbs down)... BUT! I'm still nervous!

What should you wear? What props are cute? What to avoid? What's tacky?

We are probably going into the mountains/lake view... and I've been told to have 2 or 3 outfits... aside from that I'm really over thinking this. Most engagement photos are done opposite time of year to the wedding, so it's fall/winter photos, or the summer ones are all very skinny girls in flowing dresses/rompers... EEK.

Please share your advice, tips, and maybe some engagement photo inspiration!!! Thank you!!!

Yes, I’m glad we have those skills. I still wish I could just have him show me a good selection fully edited. There is an extra cost for that editing which I wish was stated upfront, but it was on the client part of the website. But my friends are excited to get practic in and I’ve lost 25lbs since our engagement photos as well so I’ll look better. I could lose more before August too.

Ohhh I see. I've told my photographer I trust her, and I don't want to see more than 6 or 700 photos... ever... haha. She'll actually edit hundreds of them... Then maybe I'll ask her to fine tune a few favourites.

It's super helpful you guys are talented with editing yourselves! That will definitely help if you feel the need to do any more for your photos.

I think that he doesn’t think it’s necessary to edit every photo especially on the wedding day when there may be 2000+ photos. He would rather edit the ones we know we want to print. I know how to use Lightroom and it is a little tideous to edit thousands of photos so I can understand I just wish he could have told us first to select a few we wanted edited further. My fiancé is photoshopping out some hairs that are out of place and I’ll post some more.

Yeah - our photographer asked us to pose as if we were dancing, so we did...but it felt stiff so I started teasing my fiance, and it just went from there. Our photographer got a series of us goofing around and me teaching my fiancé how to spin me - I adore this photo, too.

It definitely works! The photo of you twirling in front of the garage with the old car... it's my favourite engagement photo I've seen so far! Smiley laugh

Haha. I'm comfortable calling myself fat - I've always been this way, and finally came to terms with it. But Curvy works too!

And awww, thanks! I barely fit in that dress - I bought it about 20 lbs ago but I love it so much I made it work for the shoot!

Ummm ex-squeeeeze me... Plus-size bride (Read: Curvy babe)!! Smiley laugh

I actually searched for your engagement photos the other day to show my sister because I was raving about the "ah-mazing" retro pin-up style photos that I loved. I want that dress so bad!!! Haha. I have a similar white cherry dress with the red under tulle, but it's juuuust too small for me to wear right now Smiley cry

Your photographer did an amazing job of capturing you guys looking happy and comfortable, your photos are adorable!

Eeks! From what I've seen from my photographer, I think she's really got an eye for detail. Plus she says her favourite part is editing, so I'm really excited to know she's going to make each photo look its best!

Your pictures are so cute! And thank you for reminding me to check the outfit looks as cute from the back as it does the front! Smiley laugh

First - don't be nervous. I am a 'plus size bride' (read: Fat). Trust your photographer to make you look your best. This is what they are good at, and what you're paying them for. Then, remember that your fiance loves you now, and when you were 20 lbs heavier. He loves YOU.

Second - Pick what you're comfortable in. That's the most important thing. If YOU feel good, you'll look good! Also pick things that work with your setting.

We got our pictures done about a month ago at Fort Edmonton Park. They have lots of distinct backgrounds for pictures, so we had lots to play with. We picked 2 outfits to work with our setting. For my fiancé and I, that meant vintage-y feeling 'dressy' outfits for our fun midway pictures, and then much more casual clothes for our historical/wood backgrounds.

We did our engagement photos in March 2017 and got married in September 2017. We each wore one outfit and just kind had a mixed of posed photos and candids. We did ours outside which was super beautiful with the snow and such.

My best photos with my fiancé have always been just interacting with him whilst our photographer snapped pictures. We haven’t had our proper engagement shoot yet, but we had a sort of mini-shoot immediately after he proposed. Almost none of our photos were posed, and I think that’s the way to go! Just do what feels natural for the both of you, and then only modify it a little bit for the camera’s sake (try to avoid having your hands or arms on each other in awkward places - his arms right over your breasts is a big awkward one I’ve seen.) Also, looking into the camera is great but also get some of the two of you looking at each other.
Of course, Pinterest is also REALLY helpful when it comes to ideas!!
    congrats, girl😘

I would recommend trying on all your clothing and seeimg if it looks good from all angles. One of the jeans I was wearing was too thin and I didn’t like how you could see the folds in it. Also have someone there checking your hair and to make sure you don’t have anything unwanted. I know my photographer didn’t catch a lot of things that shouldn’t be in the photo and I requested he edit two further. One my fiancé looked like he had a leather crotch and the other had these horrible basement windows. I also personally hated my make up because my friend who had done it the day before for our original shoot wasn’t able to do it again. I have photography friends tho so we will have another shoot next month. Just watch hair, I had lots of little ones sticking up from my curls and my fiancé is editing them out.

Just act natural (or as natural as you can!) Our photographer didn’t pose us too much, which was nice. Most of our favourite pics we aren’t looking at the camera. Just look at your fiancé as you normally would and your pics will turn out great! We did one outfit each, and then our nhl jerseys we just wore over top for a few pics.

I love that you're the first one to respond to this... because I'm trusting in your photographer! Haha!
How did you do your outfit changes? I'm thinking one sun dress, one top/shorts...

The best advice is have is to just be yourself and have fun! Dont overthink it! We were super goofy when getting our engagement photos done and they turned out beautiful with natural looking smiles.

Trust your photographer! They know what they are doing and sometimes the most unnatural feeling poses look the best.

Here are a couple of my favorites from our shoot last september:
