Engagement Photos: Necessary or Not?

No. We wanted them as a trial run for us because both of us are camera shy. For us, it was pretty integral, but for most they're really not.

Not necessary but they're included in our photography package, so we're doing them for that reason.

Not necessary but a really good idea! Gives you the opportunity to get to know your photographer and they look great as part of your invites.

I would have to say I'd list them as "necessary"... Most photography packages include them, and it's a fantastic way to get to know your photographer, and for them to get to know you and your picture taking style as well!

Also, unless you're a rare unicorn couple who constantly get your photos taken (nicely)... it's one of the only times you'll have regular clothes pictures taken that you can have for years to come, and also use for and wedding stationary, and on your wedding website (which we did).

Obviously if you're going to pay extra and break the bank doing so, the answer for every single one of these is "not necessary", but I think this one is worth it.

Not necessary but we did them. It was included in our package. It was nice to get to know the photographers and how they shoot but we didn’t use the pictures for anything!

We had never had any photos taken after 5 years if dating, so they were definitely important to me !

A must to me, we needed to get to know our photographer before the wedding. Now we will be more comfortable on the big day. We did not do save the dates but have added our favourite engagement pictures to our website.

Cross country wedding here! We didn’t get to take engagement photos prior to sending the save the dates, and inviatations, so we’ll take them a week before the wedding when we arrive in BC. This will give us a chance to vibe with the photographer a bit before the big day.

Definitely not, but they’re an awesome way to get comfortable with your photographer and are a really nice keepsake

Not... but if you haven't used your wedding photographer before for photos then might be a good idea to ensure you're happy

Your reasons for doing them are the reasons why we didn't. hahaha we aren't doing save the dates, we have worked with out photographer before for family photos and we have a ton of professional photos together.

YES! I am so glad that we have some professional photos done of us, all we had before were selfies at parties!

Were having a 25 month engagement, so for us it was necessary! it was so much fun to get a chance to be in front of the camera and get feeling a bit more comfortable! it was also great cause we were able to do a fall engagement shoot, but our wedding will be in the spring so it gives a bit of variety to the photos, which we love!

Not necessary for us. My mom just took a couple pics of us in the fall and that was fine by me.

Not. They were just an added bonus in our wedding package. Plus they are fun and good practice getting comfortable in front of the camera.

Must have for me! I looooove photos! And I'm so glad we did! We actually had 2 shoots and I'm so happy with all of them!

I really wanted to have engagement pictures done as we just have a lot of silly pictures together, and the girl we chose for our wedding photos offered a free engagement session! so that was really nice. the pictures were cute!

Not necessary but it is good practice working with your photographer as many include it with photo packages. It also lets you two get comfortable in front of the camera!

I don’t think it’s necessary. Personally, we are doing them for many reasons I.e., we don’t have many good photos together, we can use the photos for our save the dates, etc. But i don’t think it's a necessity by any means.

Not necessary - Logistically is wasn't going to work out for us, but regardless I think we would've skipped them anyway.

I'd say not necessary. We're getting them done though because our photographer is a friend of my fiance's family so we're getting a really good deal on photos, but with any other photographer we may have skipped out on them unless the engagement photos were already included in the package.

Not necessary but if you hire a professional photographer then it is usually included. For me I wanted pictures of our engagement just because we don't have many couple photo's as we got engaged in less than a year of knowing each other. Plus the photographer is a friend of mine from work so it's not too much money!
