My engagement photo shoot is coming up this weekend and of course I've started to second guess my outfit choice last minute.

I was planning to wear a bright red sleeveless dress, which hits above the knee. I was reading some suggestions of poses for engagement shoots and quickly fell down the rabbit hole of "what to wear for your engagement photos." Almost every article I've come across had said to stay away from bright red, because it takes focus away from everything else.

Would love some honest opinions on what you think of red dresses in engagement photos. Do they look like a nice pop of colour or overtake everything? We're doing the shoot in a park with a mix of trees, cityscape, and ocean backgrounds. Thank you!

This is what I was coming to say! Lol I'm such a supporter of "do what makes you happy" I have 2 locations for pics so 2 outfits. One will be casual and one will be dressy. I've got the casual outfit down but still looking for dressy. And you know what, I love the red idea or the idea of a bold color period! You may be on to something here lol

Thank you everyone for your opinions and helping me get out of my head! I do love the dress and feel amazing in it - just started second guessing after reading stuff online (always a danger haha).
I'm going to stick with the red dress and just rock it .

Definitely go for whatever you're going to be comfortable/confident in. I see no issue in the colour... unless it conflicts with the setting/backdrops you want to use.
*cheese alert* The best thing you can wear is your confidence... so if it makes you feel good, wear it!

Go for the red dress! I have no idea why they would say stay away from red. I did a dress that had a white top and red bottom and I loved the pop of colour.

I wore a red checkered shirt for mine and it was perfect for our setting and I loved the way it looked and I looked in the photos! Go for it!

What would bright red take away from? You and your partner will be the focus of the shots so why wouldn't you want to attract attention to yourself? I say wear the dress. Maybe bring along a sweater or a wrap to go over it if you want some shots with the dress more muted.

I wouldn't listen to the internet too much in this regard. If the outfit you chose originally makes you happy and comfortable then stick with it regardless of the colour! You should be the focus of the photos anyway so why not stand out?!

Never seen red in engagement pictures except in small pops of it.

I think you should wear what you want! Even though it was in more than one article, that's still just people's opinions. I'm sure there are people that think red is a great colour to wear in photos!

I've seen the red dresses around quite often and they're stunning! I'd totally go for it if I were you!
When we asked our photographer about it he never mentioned something like taking attention away or whatever not. He only told us to not wear something with small stripes (moiree effect) or big logos
