Engagement party - lessons learned

Loni, on April 6, 2017 at 15:54 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 3

Hey everyone! Happy almost Friday! Smiley kiss

We had our engagement party this past weekend and I thought I'd share a few lessons I learned from it! We had it at a venue, and there was about 50 guests. The venue was great! Overall I'm really happy we did it there over our house / a parent's house because it was great not to worry about preparing food, drinks, or cleaning up after! There were a few things I wish I had done though:

1) I didnt spend ANY time with FH. Didn't even have a drink with him! We had a lot of out of town guests and we were both so preoccupied with making sure we got around to talk to everyone. Which brings me to #2..

2) I wish we didn't invite so many people. We have so many loved ones who wanted to celebrate with us but I really felt like I didn't get to cherish the time with the people who came because my time was so split up between them all. How do people deal with this problem at their actual wedding?! Seriously, any advice on this I'd love to hear, because I actually started stressing about this after the party was over..

3) In all of the commotion I didn't get any pictures Smiley sad Seriously. Everything went by so fast by the time I realised I hadn't gotten any it was over! The family got a few, but I really wish I would have gotten one of FH and I.

Overall we had so much fun, but I will definitely be more aware of these things at the wedding. I know everyone says the planning and everything is stressfull but after this experience I really want to take more time to just sit back and ENJOY this experience and being engaged. It's only been 3 months but I feel like it's gone by in a whirwind.

Lesson learned: Sit back and take the time to enjoy eachother through the chaos.

Thank you for posting this! I feel like many of us brides-to-be get so wrapped in planning that we forget to sit back and appreciate our situation. I hope to be able to enjoy my wedding and really appreciate all the effort we put into the big day!

    Hi Loni! Smiley love

Really nice that you are sharing this with us! Like I think is Kacy is right. I'm sure you had a great time, but as this you know that when the Big day comes, you should watch out for this points. Forsure you will take a lot of pictures with FH on the big day! So don't worry! Smiley heart At the end the guest also know you are overwhelmed and you can't split yourself up in 10 pieces. Try not to stress about this and enjoy it!

Here is a link of real weddings of our Brides. Maybe it could be nice as an inspiration.

Love this!!! Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it's good to know! I'm glad you had a good experience overall even though you don't have photos or would have changed some things. And silver lining, as you said at least you know too watch out for these things for your actual wedding! From weddings I've attended, some have done a receiving line at the start so that at least they've said hello and thank you to everyone once, others have made time to go to each table between courses or speeches, and others I imagine use the send-off as a way to say bye to everyone in much the same way as the receiving line. And another chance to mingle and have fun with your guests is on the dance floor if you have one! But we all know it's hard, and I think most guests, if reasonable understand, especially when there are a lot of guests! Smiley smile thanks again and happy almost Friday!
