Emcee Choices

Angelina, on January 22, 2020 at 12:41 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12

How are you choosing your emcee? We partially want to ask one of our groomsmen because he would do an amazing job, but we also don't want to overload them. Any ideas or credentials to think of would be helpful.

Our MC is/was a close friend of both DH and I, as well as my parents. He and his wife were there when my parents met my DH so he could attest to our relationship. He's also outgoing and entertaining, so we knew he'd be perfect for our MC. My mom also suggested one of my uncles, who also would've been good, but I had my guy in my mind so we went with him.

I don't see why you couldn't have your groomsman, I just wouldn't ask the maid of honour or best man, since they do a bit more. I've been to weddings where the MC was a wedding party's S/O, an aunt or uncle, or a cousin. I'd look at your guest list and see if anyone else is out-going and would be a good fit.

We have chosen my brother in law. My sister is one of my bridesmaids- so we thought this was a nice way to include him, and not overload the wedding party. We did ask our best man to join in for the fun too..but the responsibility is my brother in laws 😃

We picked our DJ because he does it for a living and knows my FH personally.

Someone you know that is a good public speaker and loves to entertain people can be asked within the family or wedding party if not minded to do.

We wanted our families to enjoy the evening without having anyone to be an Emcee. The DJ himself did that for us as it was short sweet and easy to just run through what was being done starting with the reception entrance onwards.

Whoever is the most outgoing and knows you guys as a couple! For us we asked a couple people who knew both of us but weren't in the wedding party - but they weren't outgoing enough to be up for the task. In the end we asked a BM and a GM to tag-team the role so that it wasn't too much and they were great! For sure ask your GM if he wants to do a partnership if he is the one that agrees to try.

We asked my matron of honors dad (I have been really close to her family growing up) because he is a great public speaker and super funny so we thought it would add a little something to our reception! He was so touched when we asked as well.

For us we wanted to make sure it was someone who was comfortable speaking in front of a crowd, someone who would be a light jokster but still appropriate and having the sentimental connection was icing on the top!

One of my bridesmaids is going to be our MC, I think as long as it isn't your Best Man or Maid of Honour you wouldn't have to worry about overloading them.

We're planning to sit her at the end of the head table so she can easily stand up to make any announcements.

We're not having a wedding party, so we thought of other ways to include our friends and this was one of the things we asked 2 of our friends to take on. They're 2 people that just have huge personalities and love interacting with other people and getting them involved in things so they'll be great for getting everyone on the dance floor. They're also incredibly funny so they'll easily feed off each others energy and entertain by just being themselves.

We asked my brother to be our MC. He was also a Groomsman. So our DJ did all the formal introductions and the first dance. Then once that was done, he introduced my brother so that everyone knew he was taking over from then on out.

We didn't have too many speeches so it was easy for my brother to put a little bit of a speech together before he introduced people.

Yea, our DJ I know is taking on some roll, but I think I want some personal touches of stories and jokes.

That sounds like a great idea. Usually what makes a good MC is someone who’s ok being a performer and who’s enjoyable and funny without being crude.
We’re passing on the MC just because we have such a small reception, I can corral them for us
