Elopement Cancelled??

Kim, on April 23, 2021 at 13:31 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

I'm feeling so frustrated and don't even know what to do anymore.

After having to postpone our wedding until next year, we came to the decision (not easily) that we would elope, just the two of us. We thought that would be the safest option, but boy were we wrong. Since we were planning on going to Vernon (in the interior), we are now not able to travel there from the Lower Mainland.

Our hotel has cancelled our reservation and we are back to square one.

We could elope locally or push the elopement back a few weeks, but I'm just so discouraged that I don't even want to plan again with having the possibility of that being ruined too. Instead we may just be getting married at our postponed wedding next year, which again, is not what I wanted at all.

I can't be alone in this, please!

Oh my gosh, that's awful! I hope that they will open it up again in your city soon!

That's so frustrating! Eloping locally could still be nice, but it's hard when it isn't what you wanted. I hope things work out! I know how you feel. They aren't giving out marriage certificates in my city while in lockdown so I'm waiting and hoping that the lockdown doesn't extend so we can still get married this year.

    No worries!
Definitely take a day or two to process and grieve. It’s hard to have to keep changing plans on top of everything else going on in the world Smiley smile

Thanks for the suggestions! We will definitely look into some of them.

I definitely need to calm down and sleep on it before we make any decisions of how to move forward.

Oh that's so unlucky with the timing!

I notice you're in Pitt Meadows, so my options might be a bit out of your way - I was mostly looking around Vancouver. But looks like Fraser and VCH are considered one region for the travel ban so you shouldn't have an issue with that.

We had a super small ceremony in the rose garden in Stanley Park - it's free to use for wedding ceremonies if you have less than 15 people in attendance and don't require any set up. If you do want to book any of their locations it's very inexpensive and you have exclusive access though. They have a few other locations that are really beautiful and it's also a great spot for photos.

I also would have LOVED to elope at Bloedel Conservatory. I think it would be so beautiful and you don't have to worry about bad weather. This would have been my number one choice but they weren't doing weddings at the time.

There are a lot of really nice options in public parks, including beaches (Kits, Stanley Park, Jericho, Whytecliff Park, etc). I mostly looked in Vancouver and the north shore, but I'm sure there are a lot of nice locations all around the lower mainland.

If you wanted something indoors you might be able to book a small location using thisopenspace. It's a website similar to airbnb but for event/commercial use rentals. Again would be a nice safeguard against any potential rain.

I agree that eloping has become the new craze. We were planning on just doing it the two of us which makes it even harder that it's been cancelled. Still trying to figure out our next steps.

We were planning on May 18th, so a week before they end!

I would be very interested in local location, if you wouldn't mind! We're currently trying to decide between eloping locally when originally planned, postponing the Vernon plan to late June/July, or just waiting until next year. I'm trying to let myself cool down a bit before making any decisions.

I'm so sorry to hear that Kim. When were you planning your elopement? Are you still willing to do it after the travel restrictions lift? I know it's not a sure thing they'll be lifted after the May long weekend, but I can't imagine it will still be in place in June with so many people being vaccinated by then.

I know it isn't what you planned, but there are so many beautiful locations in the lower mainland where you could elope. I'm happy to share some of the options I was looking at last year if you're interested. If you and your fiancé are determined to elope this spring I'm sure you'll make something work Smiley smile

I don't believe your alone in this matter as other couples are feeling the same as their venue wouldn't allow much to take place or hold the ceremony itself. Eloping seems to be the alternative at this point to make it easy and be happy to just feel that joy of being married. Many couples have gotten the Officiant to come to their home (front or back yard) and with close family/friends present. You wish to push the Reception or Anniversary celebration for next year to have your full guest list attending.
