Elopement

Sheilah, on May 17, 2018 at 10:58 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Hey all,

We have been engaged since December 4th 2016. We have booked a venue that screwed us over for our original date. Then we tried again and the officiant double booked us and cancelled - too late to hire a new one. Then we tried again and family/pregnancy loss got thrown in and now we are on attempt #4 to actually get married! We're getting really discouraged about this whole thing. We are planning now for August 9th 2019 (originally we were supposed to be married October 13th 2017, ugh) but we are fighting the urge to forget the wedding and just elope. The fun and excitement of planning has really worn off with having to start over 3 times. We are tired of stuff Just not working out and we just wanna be married already!

Does anyone have any stories of elopement or suggestions on how to make this less of a dreaded, waiting for it to fall apart again experience and actually make it fun again?

Originally, I wanted to Elope and he wanted a wedding, now it’s switched. I want the Wedding and he wants to elope. Lol, Luckily we have two years to plan!

I wanted to elope but FH wants the whole party so I just went along with it. He kept saying I would regret it if I didn't do the big wedding, but to be honest I think it's more he would if we did elope.

I still think about eloping even with all deposits paid for...just too much drama.

I seriously considered eloping when we first started planning but my parents eloped and my mom has always regretted it. They only had 2 guests and she wishes her family had been there. I didn't want to have any regrets so I am over eloping now.

Sorry to hear you been going through a lot with wedding planning. I haven't eloped, but I know a couple that did, they had a really small ceremony. I think it was just the bride groom and 4 or less friends/family, they travelled for their elopement. Then came back home and had a wedding celebration, kind of like a social (which you can plan for August 2019), maybe even make it a vow renewal ceremony. I can definitely understand the stress of wedding planning, can't imagine going through it multiple times. Hope you guys can figure out something that will work for the both of you. Some advice if you want to still plan your wedding for August 2019 is make a list of all the positive things that you want to happen at your wedding, and focus on that. It can be really hard, but I always believe every cloud has a silver lining (so cliche, I know lol).

I eloped almost 9 years ago in Niagara Falls. No fuss less than 500 bucks spent!

Let him know that he needs to make up his mind! August 9, 2019 is coming in close (my wedding is August 4, 2019, so I know lol) and you'll need to start planning if he does decide he wants to do a more traditional wedding. I personally like the idea of eloping if it's what you both want.

We haven't booked anything just yet for that date lol. This is my second marriage so for me it's not a big deal to skip the wedding. He goes back and forth on wanting one and Just wanting it over with. I really want this to be a good experience for him and so far it has been awful.

That's a horrible run of luck! I think 4th time should be a charm tho. I'd say stick to the August 9th, 2019 date because it sounds like you've been trying to have a wedding over and over, so why elope now? Unless you haven't booked anything and just want to get it over and done with, then elope lol.
