I wouldn't buy a dress at a small size then you think you'll be at just incase you can't get to where you want to be by the time alterations need to be done. It's easier for a dress to be taken in then to have a dress taken out.

I think if you can wait closer to when you're done losing weight that is best. But keep in mind dresses need to be ordered like 10-12 months out. But definitely do not order it smaller than you are now. A good seamstress can take in the dress. There are also off the rack/consignment options if you want to wait till closer to and won't have time to order.

I would not order a dress smaller than you are. That's a lot of pressure on yourself (which you don't need to add) and very expensive/harder to make a dress bigger than smaller. I would definitely start dress shopping a year out from the wedding but talk to the stores about when you need to order a dress by (both my friends dresses just came in and they only took 4 months even though they were told 6-8), and then order as close as you can to that cut off date. The less you need to alter, the better obviously.

    Congratulations!!
I have had a baby in November 2020 and gained 80 pounds. I went dress shopping September 2021 and ordered my dress in one size up just incase but I am working with a trainer and have a goal to loose the weight by my wedding which is September 30th 2022! I let my alterations lady know that is my plan and that I will need the dress taken in. She told me it’s best to bring the dress in august because by then I won’t be really changing my weight too much and it won’t be a problem to take it!
