Drink options for cocktail hour

Emma, on October 4, 2018 at 23:40 Posted in Wedding reception 0 8
For one venue we really like the package we are looking at includes 4 hours for the open bar. We want to use the full 4 hours after dinner (8-12). Instead of adding another hour of open bar what do people think about this for cocktail hour?

Our venue provides non-ahlcoholic fruit punch, but we would also get red wine sangria, and see if they can do some hot chocolate.

It would help cut our costs a little then a full open bar. And it would prevent people getting hammered before dinner is over (we will also have unlimited wine through dinner).

But does that seem lame for cocktail hour?

Hottail hour sounds great since hot chocolate is included. All sounds gopd to save the extra cost and timing well set.

I think that sounds great for a cocktail hour! Just a sample of what's to come later in the night! Even though it's called "cocktail" hour, I think you can get away with not too much alcohol. We skipped cocktail hour altogether and no one complained, so I doubt your guests will mind!

So we met with the venue today. And we booked it yay!! I was liking the sangria idea. But then I started thinking about how my dad and brothers and future brother in law etc really like beer. So we decided to use one of our open bar hours during cocktail hour instead of after dinner. We will just switch to a cash bar when our remaking hours are used. We figure people can order some drinks right before the bar closes and at most anyone would maybe pay for one drink.

Have it alcohol free and call it "Mocktail Hour!!" Hahha!!! I think it's fine though! Since you have so many options coming up during and after dinner a less boozy cocktail hour is no problem!

I wouldn't mind that for a cocktail hour, not lame at all! Maybe the hotel can provide Bailey's or Kahlua since yeah, Ontario's Liquor Laws are super strict!! If not, the punch, sangria, and hot chocolate sound great.

Our cocktail hour is going to be our signature drink(s) and then unlimited wine at dinner. Champagne is provided for toasting during speeches and after that we have a full open bar for 4 hours.

Unfortunately we can’t bring in any of our own booze. Or I would totally do spiked coffee and hot chocolate lol. We are in Ontario and the liquor laws make it tough. If we want to bring in any of our booze we need to get our own liquor license and insurance and it can’t be served at the same time the hotel is serving drinks.

We are going to sit down with the catering manager at one of the potential venues this afternoon. So I’m going to ask them for ideas too.

Planning our whole reception again from scratch is stressful with less then 90 days to go. Thankfully all the venues we have talked to can’t believe we’ve been put in this situation and have been so helpful getting this done quickly. And they also get that we have been planning everything with a budget in mind based on our previous venue. So they are being awesome at finding ways to help us find ways to minimize our time increases costs.

Not lame at all to me! Last wedding that I went to everybody went back to their hotel rooms (wedding was at a hotel resort) and pre-gamed even though it was open bar though.

I don't know if it's because I too am a bride and understand the costs are high - but I would be fine with that. Maybe ask if you could bring your own Bailey's or Kahlua and have coffee as well as hot chocolate?
