Dress shopping advice

Olivia, on August 4, 2020 at 16:56 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 11
Hi everyone!

I’m going to dress shopping in two weeks, I’m super excited but also a little overwhelmed. I always thought I knew what style I wanted but now I have no idea! Any advice on how not to go crazy with all the options at the store? I feel like I’ll be super indecisive and worried there’s a better one out there. Thanks!!

I would say go in with an open mind, I went in with one thing in mind and one thing only, but after some persuasion I ended up trying one on with a silhouette that wasn’t necessarily on my radar and I loved it immediately!

It's important to know what style you like; but remember the dress is highlighting you, not you highlighting the style. I'm short so I get consumed in ballgowns and washed out in very busy dresses. Don't be afraid of simplicity. Bling can be added. Alterations can be done. Also have an open mind because the dress I chose was not even on my radar but it was perfect, works with my theme and vision. Remember to have fun, dress shopping should always be exciting and fun, not stressful. Bring someone supportive with you in person or via video chat who will help you with your vision. I hope this helps.

I went in to dress shopping with an idea of what I thought would look good on me and what I wanted. The consultants I worked with were really good with taking my ideas and integrating it with their own professional experience. By doing this, I found a dress with elements of what I wanted but with a shape I never thought I'd like before. Kind of best of both worlds. Good luck, and have fun with it!

I think everyone will have a different approach that works for them. I'd say be open at first then you can narrow it down. I personally had some difficulties with finding my dress, but I thought going shopping alone kind of helped me, and some assertiveness. If you don't like something, be honest and hopefully that gets you closer! But everyone is different, and at the end of the day your gut and how you feel in it will be the best indicator.

I would highly suggest going in with an idea of what you like... with that being said, be open minded to trying different styles as sometimes it will surprise you Smiley smile

When I started looking at dresses I had a few in mind already. I had picked out a few styles I new I wanted to try on but of course I did step out of my box and tried on a few that I never thought I would even like. At the end of the day, the dress I picked, was the one from the very start that I had my eyes on. Sometimes it's best to go with you gut feeling!

I had lots of ideas. Mostly lace and sleeves, and flowy. The dresses I loved most were nothing like I had thought I'd wanted! I would definitely be open to trying one or two that might not seem like they fit your vision, you may be surprised or you might find that you have even more confidence in your original plan.

I had the exact same worry and ultimately couldn’t narrow it down between two but I eventually got there. I would recommend being open to everything, try on a variety of dresses you like on the hanger and go from there. Your consultant can help you once you narrow down what you do and don’t like. I went to four different stores and all of them directed me to dresses within my budget and I picked out about 7-9 I liked and went from there. If it helps ease your worry, I always saw myself in a flowy A-line and ended up with a fitted lace gown. I also had a difficult time making my final decision and the consultants all understood and were so patient with me.

You’re going to have so much fun! Be open to anything and then be very honest about what you like and don’t like!

My fiancee told me that rather than going through the racks and racks of dressings individually, she gave ideas/pictures to the lady at the shop and had her pick five based on that. The shop lady would additionally suggest three based on her professional judgement plus two more that are completely out there or based on things that my fiancee said she's not a fan of, just to actually rule out the possibility because you may think you don't like something but once you put it on, it looks or feels different. Out of those ten dresses, they all agreed on one.
