Dress shopping

Amanda, on June 19, 2018 at 13:25 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 6
Ladies, I am getting married June 2019 and I am trying to figure out the best time to go. I know the rule is at least 1 year but is it really necessary? My sister in law got hers in oct and it arrived in 3 months and her wedding isn’t until August.

Also where did you go to get a dress I will be in Oakville

best at places for bridesmaids dresses that are gorgeous and good selection but not to expensive

I am getting Married October 12 2019 and I know someone who is getting married on that day as well and she already got her dress. I am going shopping July 15 just to try on shilouettes because I have zero Idea what will look good. I have an idea on what I want but don't know if it looks good. I will be going to purchase the dress in the fall that way I have alot of time for alterations!

I will be getting married Oct 4, 2019 and went wedding dress shopping just a few weeks ago to "check things out". I was not planning on buying a dress but ended up finding the perfect dress and could not turn it down.

It was ordered June 11th and will take 4 months to come in. I have already contacted a seamstress to get on the list for alterations as there are only a few in the area.

This way I have a TON of wiggle room if the dress comes in later than 4 months.

Do you know the policy for payment on a dress? Like is it 50% down then the rest at pick up or is it less etc. Just wondering if I can fit dress shopping in my budget by September. I would love to go earlier in August just to be safe but I already have 2 weddings to attend and a possible move

Thank you for the info I didn’t see that way. Are you able to walk into any wedding store and just browse? I have in mind what I want and I am not into any designer. So my best bet would be latest September because yes I am counting down the months and if it takes 6/8 months then that’s cutting it close for any alterations etc to be done

I would do a "feeler" trip. Go to the top one or two salons you'd probably buy from, see what designer you're drawn to, and ask how long that specific designer takes.

I thought the same thing, so I went in to order 8 months in advance... my wedding is January 2019... I ordered beginning of May... and my dress won't be here til November! So if I'd waited I wouldn't have gotten my dress.

My sister on the other hand ordered hers in June, and it was in by September... different store, different designer.

Once you know the dresses you like are 4 months, 6 months, or 8 months out, you can plan your shopping accordingly.

Also there's not much harm in having your dress a few months early... accessories take 2-3 months, and if you have your dress already, you can try them on with your actual dress before purchase.

I think the time frame depends on the designer or the store you end up going to. I went to Kleinfelds in Toronto, which is not friendly on the budget, but it had the best selection for dresses I wanted to try on. I am getting married Sept 29 2018, I went dress shopping Sept 16, 2017 and my dress does not come in until July.

I have a friend who also got her dress at Kleinfelds and her dress took 9 months to come in. I have another friend who got her dress from a small bridal shop in Elora, ON and her dress came in, in 4 or 5 months.
