Dress Regret, Don’t Know What to Do

Melissa, on February 5, 2022 at 23:31 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 13
Hello everyone,

A few months back, I found a Vera Wang wedding gown (for $2200 CAD) at a charity shop and nabbed it - now I’m feeling a bit of dress regret because I found a Christina Wu dress (for $1966 CAD) that’s perfect - but I already bought the Vera Wang dress. I could get the Vera Wang dress altered to the silhouette I want
- or I could cut my losses and just get the Christina Wu dress. What should I do?
Vera Wang (as is and needs to be altered and lifted):Dress Regret, Don’t Know What to Do 1Christina Wu (clipped to fit my waist at the salon):Dress Regret, Don’t Know What to Do 2

If I was to alter the Vera Wang, I would basically make the bodice shape exactly like the Christina Wu. Ultimately, the shapes of the dresses would be the same - just different fabrics. The Vera Wang has gorgeous lace detailing but the Christina Wu shimmers in low light. Both are a-line and have crinoline underneath.

Melissa, I was thinking about this last night- why not list it on Poshmark or The Real? The website charges a fee but I have seen wedding dresses on Poshmark and well The Real seems to be "the" site for designer clothing...

Since you are getting married in Toronto I'm guessing you live somewhere in the GTA. If you want to sell the Vera Wang I'd check out Sixpence Bridal in Guelph or Feather & Pearl / Second Dance Bridal in St. Catherine's. Both specialize in consignment wedding gowns so one might be able to sell the dress for you.

I agree. Once you find the dress - stop shopping! Luckily I love love LOVE my dress so much that no matter how many other dresses I see photos of - nothing holds a candle to mine...but I still wouldn't risk trying on others.

If budget is not a concern, maybe keep both? A lot of brides wear multiple dresses on their wedding day.

There are bridal consignment stores that may be an option, along with Facebook Marketplace (GTA Wedding Buy & Sell), StillWhite, PoshMark, etc.

You may not be able to recoup the same $$ you spent on it, but it could def. help offset the cost and you to get the dress you truly love.

The thing is, I’m not sure how much I’d be able to sell it for, and where I’d be able to sell it.

Take the loss. It’s apparent that you know in your gut that the second dress is the one that you want to get married in. $1000 loss is OK! It’s not like you do these things all the time. It’s your wedding! Do what you want and forget this monetary loss that is reasonable for your happiness!

I agree with the other comments - you can always sell the Vera Wang, plus you also have to factor in how much the alterations would be to make the Vera gown into the exact look/fit you want vs taking in a few areas of the Christina Wu...

Agree with Alyx - the Christin Wu is beautiful on you and you can sell the Vera Wang dress.

Hmm! you could probably sell the Vera wang easily because you haven’t even really worn it!
Put it on your local market place and your local wedding Facebook page!

I know 😭😭😭😭😭😭 but I already bought the Vera Wang. If I opted for the Christina Wu I would lose over $1000.

Dress regret is so normal and I see it all the time for starters!
I absolutely love the Christina wu on you, absolutely stunning and it looks like it fits really nice.
The Christina wu is less expensive too and more beautiful in my opinion! So much character to that dress!! 😍😍😍My suggestion once you’ve decided on the dress. Delete pictures of other ones , don’t try any more on and don’t look online because you chose that one for a reason! This is what my grandma made me do ! I have no photos of other ones that I tried on so I compare myself in photos! I have one pic of myself in the dress I got and it’s almost like a surprise getting to see it again and I so excited to get it in!!!
