Dress Alterations

Michelle, on October 10, 2018 at 18:38 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 4

Hey guys,

So I have my wedding dress already as I bought it off the rack. I have some alterations I need to do, just a bit of a hem and possibly let out a little in the hips/upper thigh area as it is a little tight. Also have to had a bustle. I also do want to get it cleaned before my wedding as I did buy it off the rack people have tried it on. It is a bit dirty around the bottom. Wedding is April 13. When should I bring it in for alterations and then cleaning afterwards? Not sure how much time I should leave in between. I still have 6 months so I also do not want to go too soon then have my body composition change after altering.

Thanks for the reply! I am actively trying to lose weight/tone. So hopefully in a few months it will change a bit!

Hey Michelle, has your body composition and weight fluctuated drastically in the past few months? Or do you notice your weight fluctuating a lot? I feel like 6 months is a good time to get your first fitting done - since most places require 2-3 fittings to ensure your dress is perfect on your day of. After the first fitting, you can return at the 3 month mark to have a second fitting and see what else needs to be done - and if your body has changed since then?

    Hope this helps a bit!

Clean before you think? I was thinking clean it after so it is fresh on the day. Hmmm

My seamstress recommends coming in 3 months before. even for minor alterations (shes a busy shop so she likes to give herself some extra time). a lot of shops recommend 8 weeks. call who you are going with and find out

also. I would clean the dress first. unless the seamstress shop does that.
