Doubts on my dress

Janaya, on September 15, 2018 at 18:52 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 14
These are the two dresses I'm torn between... but the more I think about them the more I feel like it's not really a wedding dress? I absolutely love them both but sometimes I feel like a wedding dress should have more volume in the skirt? Plus my mom doesn't like either of them, but I'm getting married next summer so I want something that's light and flows.. any thoughts?

I love those both! I'm also getting married next summer and those are exactly the types of dresses I've been looking at.

I know it's difficult if your mother doesn't like your dress, but it's your wedding day and you need to be happy with your decision.

A wedding dress can be whatever you want it to be, and no matter what you wear as long as you feel great all eyes will be on you and everyone will love it. Maybe your mom will feel differently when she sees your hair and makeup done as well. That will add to the formalness.

Both are pretty but no matter what we say or others say you are the one who has to love it. Make sure you aren't getting one based on how it will look in pictures or with the theme of the wedding - chose something that makes you feel beautiful and like a bride.

Both are really pretty! I also did not want a big skirt and went for something more simple and flowy. I would go and try both on, with an open mind and bring your mom with you. Once she sees you in a dress she may change her mind.

The days of the big ball gown being the standard wedding dress are quickly fading, which is nice because I didn't want a ball gown! I ended up with a nice, flowy A-line with a bedazzled bodice. I felt more like a bride in that than any of the ballgowns I tried on.

If you know this is the style you want, stick with it! Otherwise, you have time before your wedding to try on other dresses and see if it's more the style for you.

Ah! A girl to my own heart! Lol I feel the same way! I thought it was just me. Something about a big ball gown dress just screams bride to me. But my fiancé wanted fitted so I have two dresses. Maybe consider splitting your budget in two and getting 2 dresses? They don't have to be expensive. Me for example has two actual wedding dresses. But my sister in law who also had a summer wedding had one big ball gown dress and a changed into a really cute white dress from guess! It was very bridal looking but short and easy to dance in Smiley smile

Both are beautiful but I do agree with the other posters as well. Maybe a bit more tulle or sparkle to glam it up a bit. I totally get where you’re coming from - my first dress I had bought was simple and flowy, perfect for a summer beach wedding. But the more I looked at my dress, and other factors that played into dress decision making, I caved and purchased a dress that had more lace detailing and lots more tulle.

You have plenty of time, take the next month or two and make appointments to try on dresses. Try on dresses in the styles you like and some in the styles your mom likes. In the end, if you’ve tried it all and still love the dress style of your choice, do what makes you happy and go with the one that you feel most comfortable and beautiful in.

I always thought I wanted a simple, flowy sheath dress as well, or mermaid - but ended up with an a-line ball gown (a style I thought I would never want).

Best of luck searching for the dress! Don’t stress - enjoy the process. Smiley smile

I love the second one more, you could add a tool skirt under to give it a little more volume if you wanted, or a shiny rhinestone belt to make it more fancy

You could always get a bit of fabric added underneath to give it more volume!

Both are beautiful! There was a time where big fat ballgowns were the typical wedding dress, but nowdays more and more brides are enjoying such flowy and light gowns for their beautiful simplicity (and comfort). If this style of dress fits with your venue and the style of your wedding, and most importantly, if when trying it on you feel like a bride, then go for it. 😊 If you have doubts, keep shopping and see if you find anything else you like better, or if you keep coming back to this. That will be your answer.

I love them both!! Soft and flowy! Still very romantic and elegant!! I would say the first looks more like a destination wedding dress on a beach (the top seems more summer fun) The second dress I feel works better to a summer wedding no matter where it is! The top is a bit more sophisticated and I feel it's very bridal!

I think they are both beautiful, but if you are unsure, you still have time to go try on a few more before you make a decision. Go with your guy, keeping what you want as your priority. If you try a few fuller ones but don’t fall in love, you have these to come back to! Good luck!
