Donations in lieu of favours

Kim, on April 16, 2019 at 19:23 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
We are doing a donation in lieu of favours for our wedding. I had initially decided to make said donation to the hospice my dad was in which is in a large city. However, we have since moved several hours away to a very rural area and my FH thought it may be more beneficial to make the donation to our now local hospice as it doesnt receive nearly as much funding. I'm pretty torn bc I want the money to go where it is most needed but obviously the hospice where my dad passed away holds a special place in my heart. I've been trying to decide for the last 3 or 4 months and our wedding is just over a month away so I need to make a decision. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I did think about splitting it... I'm thinking now maybe we will just make a future smaller donation to our local one. Thank you for the suggestions!!

That's very true! Good point!! I think I have been trying to convince myself itd be better to donate to our local one since they are more in need but my heart is definately pulling for the hospice he was in. I'm sorry you've lost your dad too... it's never easy to lose a parent but it seems a little extra hard around this time that we're getting married.

Maybe split it half and half? Or if people are making donations directly to the place then ask them to donate to whichever one of them they want. This is such an amazing idea

Follow what's in your heart. I doubt you will regret donating to a place that cared for your dad and supported your family during a difficult time. It may seem more reasonable to give to a place closer to you that could also use the assistance, but I don't think you should have to convince yourself that's what you should do. There's nothing wrong with either choice, but as someone who has also lost a father, I was very grateful for the care he received in hospice. Need is important, but so is personal connection.

I think that's a beautiful idea. I can't begin to tell you how many useless favours I've gotten from weddings, and the donation sounds like something so special and meaningful.
