Donation in lieu of favours

Desiree, on June 17, 2021 at 10:48 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 10
Has anyone done a donation to a charity in honour of their wedding guests instead of giving everyone wedding favours? Feedback or your thoughts on this.

I really want to do this. Preferably to an animal shelter as we have 2 adopted cats. But my fiance is not totally on board with the idea, he thinks it's rude to do "forced donations". But my opinion is that no one cares about favours and they usually just get left behind or thrown in the garbage. I hate the idea of wasting money, and think it would be so much better used as a donation to a worthy cause if you're adamant about "doing something"

    Love this idea!
We donated to our local SPCA as were both huge animal lovers, with a penchant for rescue.
For us, if we donated over $100 we received general cards to place at each table letting guests know a donation was made. If we donated over $200, we got personalized cards for all the guests. I know quite a few charities will do something similar so you should explore some options!
As for the donation amount, we weren’t doing favours to begin with, so we felt anything we donated was acceptable. It’s really up to you and what you feel comfortable with….. but we looked at it as an opportunity to save some cash ( favours can be expensive!)

Charities are a upcoming thing rather than giving an edible favour. Its a nice thing to do as donate the amount they wish under their names provided its on your behalf. A note is nice to put at each seating for guests to know you appreciate them being there.

You don't need to divulge that. The charity will be grateful for any monetary donation.

Ahhhhh that’s a fantastic idea. Never heard of it. However, I think you should do it.

I was trying to figure out what we can do for favours, we’re just having decorative cookies. Ha

I love this idea! I think if you can do it then you absolutely should Smiley smile

Question for everyone - what amount do you think should be donated per guest? Because favours you can keep to maybe $5/person but that seems a little low for a donation?

It's more common than you think. If that's what you want to do, go for it!

My plan was not to do favours for that reason but my fiancé didn’t like that idea and so he mention the donation idea and at first I was on the fence about it but the more I think of it I really like it.

    This is a great idea!

We aren't doing favours as the majority of them don't get taken. I've been on clean up crew for many family weddings and it's sad how many get left behind/forgotten.
