Doing your own makeup?

Taylor, on November 21, 2016 at 10:19 Posted in Beauty 0 12

Hello everyone! So recently I have been looking on Pintrest for what type of makeup I would want to have done for my wedding. I haven't had a trial done yet - no point in doing it now. However I was thinking about doing my own makeup. In the past whenever I have gotten my makeup done by someone else I haven't liked it. I'm very picky when it comes to my foundation and my eyes. Something seems to be getting lost in communication, although I usually show photos as well. I do my own makeup pretty much every day - fake lashes and all. I was thinking about just doing my own makeup on my wedding day - I get that it will be busy but I just want to make sure I like it! Has anyone else done this?

Hi Taylor, I agree with Erin. As long as you have the right products and you make sure to test your makeup before the wedding, everything should be fine.

    Hi Taylor!

I am also planning to do my own makeup, and I think that as long as you have the right products and do a trial on yourself, you should be good to go! I also love makeup and wear it almost everyday, and honestly, I am in the same boat where anytime I;ve had my makeup done, I haven't liked it, so I don't want to chance that on my wedding day. Also, maybe go to Sephora or a brand counter at a department store and do a test there where they apply the makeup and you purchase what they use on you. This way, you can get the step by step instructions of your look to recreate on the day. Hope this helps your decision!

Hi Melinda, you could be suprised! Sometimes if your wedding is during "untraditional" hours you could get better prices. You should definitely look up with a few professionals. Try to see if there are some near your venue: Wedding Makeup near Almonte What colours of lipstick do you like? Smiley smile

Hi Taylor Smiley heart I've had similar experiences in the past of being disappointed with my makeup being done by someone else. But once you find a makeup artist that matches your style and really understands you, it becomes totally different and it's really worth it. Smiley smile

When looking for a makeup artist, you should ask to see pictures of their work to see if you like their style. Also ask about what products they use to see if they're products you would use yourself.

You should take a look at these articles: 10 Questions to Ask a Makeup Artist They really have great tips!

Whatever you choose to go for... I can't wait to see pictures of your trials! Smiley love

What styles of makeup have you been looking at so far?

I don't wear makeup hardly ever and to be honest I don't even know how to do it properly! I want to look like myself so I want only subtle, hopefully natural looking makeup. I'll probably get my sister to do it for me. I'm not opposed to a professional but I'll have to look into it a bit more. My venue is off the beaten path a bit and also we're getting married on a Sunday morning, so might not be easy to find someone for a reasonable price.

Why don't you try going to the Bay or Mac and doing some free trials with them? You can try alot of looks, see what you like and do your own after. Just have to make sure you have product that works well with HD cameras for photos! For example you should never use green concealer, even though it works for other applications, it will show up under your foundation in the photos . Good luck. Try some looks and post them. Would love to see!

I think if you're comfortable doing your own makeup and already have experience with false lashes, go for it! Just make sure everything is waterproof! Haha (setting spray also works wonders) You have lots of time to try out different looks so have fun with it! What style is your dress? The "cat eye" eyeliner can look really nice but may not be right for certain dress styles.

I went with a more natural look with a bit of a purple smokey eye. I don't think I can pull off a bold lip so I went with a soft pink. (Also, then I didn't have to worry about it fading at some point.)

    Hair & Makeup Trial

    This was from the trial.

    Getting ready

This was how it turned out the day of! I could have maybe had a bit more blush but at least it wasn't over the top.

Also, I would recommend doing white strips a month or two before the wedding too! I was so worried about not having white enough teeth to go with my makeup! Smiley atonished

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

That's exactly what I'm doing! Except I'm not talented when it comes to make up and will be asking someone else to do it. It's definitely a time and money saver to do it this way!

I understand how you feel about letting others do you make-up! I think maybe one time I have actually been happy with the result! I was thinking about doing my own makeup- but my sister has offered to treat me to the service, so we can great ready together, which I think will be really nice...So now it is hard to decide!

I also have a pretty outrageous make up collection, so my plan was to do trial runs in home...I was also making visits to Shepora and testing out different primers and setting sprays to make the best combo. I think doing your own make up is totally feasible, as long as you practice the look you want before the day. You don't want to try something totally new, and hate it and then have to start over. If you practice a look and can complete the process in a good timeline- go for it!

Also, don't forget to take pictures to see how well the style photographs. SPF can do funny things (like make you look pale, or even a bit blue) and thick foundation will look pretty obvious on camera!

The only thing that makes me nervous is the nerves! I know I'm very capable of doing my own makeup - my collection is a little crazy. I just love the idea of having someone do it for me. I didn't want to have to test multiple people out but I'm super picky. Who are you going with?
