Doing or Ditching: The Cake Cutting?

Lynnie, on April 1, 2019 at 09:05 Posted in Wedding reception 0 49

The cake-cutting is a classic wedding tradition and standard photo opportunity! The symbolism is pretty sweet - it’s the first activity you do together as a couple, and feeding each other a small bite symbolizes your commitment to providing and caring for one another. But cutting the cake can become pretty complicated (which tier?!), and not everyone wants pictures of themselves chowing down on dessert!

Are you ditching tradition and cutting out the cake ceremony at your wedding? Or keeping this tradition in?

DID! This was done with one cut and the cake was plate service by the staff.

Ditching. I can't eat cake anyway, so my FH found a brilliant alternative: a "cake" of cheese wheels! No cutting that either though. Everyone can help themselves.

We're keeping it, but have agreed there will be no cake smashing in the face on either person's part. Good photo op and opportunity for memories!

It's also a nice way to signal the starting point where people can politely go, which is especially good for parents or people travelling early the next morning. It's relative too where most of our guests are flying in from out of town.

Doing! We like the idea of this simple tradition. Besides if we don’t do this then who knows when we will get to eat the cake lol

Undecided. IF we do one, it’ll be a cookie cake (basically a thick giant cookie).

Ditching, don't plan on having a cake but an assortment of squres, tarts, cake pops, and some fruit at a dessert table.

We will be keeping this tradition, although originally we didn't plan to. The way the day breaks down, its actually super convenient for us to draw our guests out of the reception area after dinner over to the cake table/ bar area, giving our venue the opportunity to remove tables from the dance floor.

    Undecided.

We will be having a cake just for us and the wedding party, we are limited to the amount of time we have our photographer for, so if we have time we can get the pictures, if not I will just have someone in the family take those pictures for us.

Undecided! I'm not sure if cake is really the best thing to symbolize our commitment to provide for each other... Plus, apple crisp is a far more appealing dessert option!

We will be doing this. However, we are ditching the "smush cake in each other's faces" part.

We're not sure since we're still undecided on whether or not we're having a cake to even cut.
