dj vs Playlist

Sarah, on October 22, 2017 at 18:50 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 10

Hello,

wanted to find out if there is anyone who created a playlist for their wedding instead of using a DJ and what they felt the pros and cons were.

Also open to getting some DJ suggestions for Calgary AB

I used Happy Wife Happy Life

They may be willing to travel to Calgary since its not that far. One of the owners Matt is a doll to deal with. Highly recommend!

Thank you for the feedback, for those who had a playlist; was there a certain program you used?

We will be doing a playlist and our own music. We have both done DJing at private events in the past. We will have a friend manage our playlist though with a dj program to help shift the music nicely in between each other. We love the idea of personalized as my fiance doesn't like all the music and we can add songs he likes as most dj's don't have his type of music metal remixes, etc. of popular song I like.

We went with a DJ, but my husband created our cocktail hour playlist along with the 'must play' list to give the DJ. I was glad I didn't have to worry about the music or ask one of my friends/family members to be in charge of it - we all got to have fun!

We used a DJ and I'm glad we did as it took all the stress away of which songs to play and when and timing everything. We were originally going to do a playlist but decided for us that a DJ would be best. Playlist weddings can definitely work, it just depends on what you want. You would have to assign someone to that task and make sure they know what to play and when. You may also have to rent a PA system/audio system and have someone do the MC duties.
With the DJ option we liked that the DJ did the major MC bits like the grand entrance intro and stuff. He also was good at reading the crowd and decoding what to play to get people dancing. He also took requests. Again, it's totally possible to have a playlist wedding you just have to put more work into it and be organized that's all

I hired a DJ for both the ceremony and reception and it was one of the best decisions ever. He also doubled as our MC and he made the night so lively and fun. He definitely knew how to keep the crowd going. The thing with a playlist is... do you really want to hear the entire song, and what about those awkward pauses during song changes. It doesn't matter during dinner. But if you have dancing afterwards, consider a DJ. He mixes the songs and makes it seamless. If you're someone who likes to party, definitely get a DJ. If you could care less, a playlist is fine.

All the weddings I have been to have done a playlist. I think it's nice because it's more affordable and you get to choose what songs you want to dance to on your special day. We will be making a playlist.

Most of the weddings i have been to in the last 3 years have had their own playlists... I honestly prefer it to a dj. We will be making our own playlists.

I’ve been to weddings where they did this and honestly did not notice a difference.
