DJ or playlist

Ashley, on January 12, 2020 at 23:34 Posted in Plan a wedding 1 12
Hi all! I'm new here and so excited to start the planning. We are trying our best to keep the budget low and I'm wondering people's thoughts on creating our own playlist and skipping a DJ. Has anyone done this?! Thanks!!

Playlist! The only reason we are doing this is because we are having a fairly small wedding with about 70 guests and the restaurant does not allow a DJ

Personally, I would never have skipped a DJ. Ours is doing absolutely everything music-related for us so it saves us from having to supply and set up speakers and a mic, then run and hit play when the ceremony is starting (and pause and play again as necessary throughout). They then move everything over to the cocktail space, cover all the MC duties, and - most importantly for us - have the experience to read the room to make sure everyone has a great time and there is never no one on the dance floor.

I have heard that Spotify playlists often go well, so if that's what you decide, then all the power to you! Music is just pretty high-profile and it's one thing we don't want to have to worry about.

    Hello! Congrats Smiley laugh

My Fiance and I are on a tight budget as well.

I do not mind a playlist, however he wants a DJ.

If you or your partner are really adamant about a DJ, i suggest finding venues that include a DJ in their price. This can save you a ton of money.

However I do not see the problem with a Playlist. The only comment I would have on that is to have one of your bridesmaid or groomsmen or someone keep an eye on the playlist , make sure there will be no lull and all that.

I had friends that did a Spotify playlist and I didn't remember that they didn't have a DJ!

Another user named Carly put together a huge list of songs that she is using for her wedding. If you're going to build a playlist this might help!

The biggest difference with a DJ is there is someone to read the room and see that it's time for a slower song or that the older folks (or younger folks) left so they can play different genres. If you still want to make a playlist it might be helpful to ask someone to be in charge of running the playlist during the reception.

We're doing a playlist using Spotify! I've also divided up and labeled the music so our emcees know when to play certain music, like for our entrance at the reception, cake cutting, first dance, etc.

Budgeting for a DJ can work to your benefit if affordable. Call and inquire around finding the right one that will work towards your budget.

A playlist has to be created, put the songs that fit your styles and eras for the ceremony and reception. Genres to artists that you like to add can be fast and slow to enjoy.
