diy florals

Hey fellow brides! Have any of you (or are you planning to) make your own floral arranagements? I'm thinking of my making my own bouquet as well as the bridal party ones. I already decided to make my own centrepieces and I've been looking into quotes for the rest - I couldn't believe that for my bridal party (ten including me and my fiancé) it would be over $800!
Has anyone found good online tutorials to make your bouquets? I found an online company, A Floral that sells silk flowers (which is what I want) but am nervous about making them myself.

I think you will really enjoy the end result and satisfaction knowing that you made them too and they will turn out great!

Yours looks great! Your dad did a great job Smiley smile

I think I will check out Michael's since they do seem to have a lot of sales. I'm having trouble locating dark purple (eggplant) flowers online so maybe I will have more luck in a store.

Thank you for the step by step instruction -- I know i will be following that when making my bouquet and the bridesmaids ones. It's great that you spent about $200 on all of those bouquets as I was quoted $200 for my bouquet alone, plus $180 for each bridesmaid! It's one of the reasons I decided to try making them myself (with my bridesmaids help).

Hi! I am getting married in July and I made my own bouquets for myself and my bridesmaids. I purchased the flowers from Michaels and a wholesale store that carries a lot of products for weddings. Michaels always has amazing sales on everything and I was able to purchase the flowers for 60% off during their fall clearance sale. I found other smaller flowers to fill in the bouquets at the wholesale store. My mom, dad, and I made them together. First, we had to separate the all of the stems, which we enlisted the help of my dad. You will need an x-acto knife and some wire cutters. When that was done we kind of just started to try a few different arrangements until we found something that we liked. My dad actually came up with the final bouquet! Since that was the idea that we were going to base all of the rest of the bouquets from, we just taped it together with packing tape temporarily. We put the stems into groups based on the order that they should be put together. So 2-4 stems would be taped together (we used green masking tape at first). When all of the smaller groups were put together we then went over the masking tape with a green floral tape that I also purchased from Michaels and you cannot tell that the flowers are taped together at all. If you end up doing this, make sure you really stretch the floral tape so that it adheres, it gets very sticky when you do this. I think that with both kinds of tape they will be very secure. Lastly, we took one of each of the small groups and put them in the correct order to match the example that my dad had come up with. All of the stems were taped together with green masking tape and then floral tape over top. At the end, we had to use the wire cutters to make sure that all the stems were the same length. My mom and dad cut cardboard tubes from wrapping paper to go around the stems so that the tape is covered up and it gives everyone a nice handle to hold onto. I will be finishing them with ribbon that I also purchased at Michaels to match our wedding colours. In total I think I ended up spending about $200 for my bouquet, 6 bridesmaids, and an extra bouquet for throwing at the reception. It was well worth it because I know I saved a lot of money and it was also fun to do with my mom. I hope this is helpful!

Below is a link to my post on a bouquet tutorial I found. Haven't checked it out though, so don't know if it's good or not.

I love that idea! My wedding is in July so I have some time left but I'm also going back to school part time and am not sure I can make paper flowers without throwing the books across the room. Plus my crafting is limited to toddler art (I'm a toddler teacher) lol

I'm making roses and other flowers from paper (books actually). Our theme is going towards the nerdy side, like books and stories and it fits it better. We got some books from thrift stores (also themed into the things we like Star Wars / Disney stuff etc) and as long as you got some time till your wedding and like crafts it's perfectly manageable.

A s well as the costs, we're both not really into flowers so spending hundreds of dollars on flowers seemed a bit much.

I think I will be purchasing silk flowers (I'm allergic to many real ones and don't want to be puffy eyed on my wedding day!)....I found a company that is based in the US and ships to Canada called Afloral.com

They sell individual flowers, bouquets ready made, boutonniere and corsage pieces....I'm searched a few youtube videos and googled "DIY florals wedding" to get some inspiration help but am still trying to figure out the logistics.

My sister-in-law took a class on flower arranging and is making the bouquets for my wedding. I think it was a lady she knows that offered it. I would suggest checking with local florists to see if they offer a class. Or a craft store might offer classes as well.

Following. I will also do the centre pieces with the help of my partner’s mother and sister, but I am not really sure I can compose my bouquet and I do not even know where to start from for the boutonnières.

so any suggestions will be really helpful and appreciated!
