Destination weddings

Taylor, on June 24, 2019 at 15:18 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 6
In the beginning stages of planning a destination wedding and I wanted some opinions from people who have done it or have been to one. Where did you go, what was good about it, what wasn’t, etc!

I really wanted to do a destination but so many key people wouldn't be able to attend! If you're okay with a more immediate family and very close friends and you know your guests could probably afford it, I'd say do it.

For us, so many people can't fly/get a passport or simply afford the trip. Plus, we'd probably get legally married at home at city hall and then do the symbolic ceremony for the destination wedding, just so it's less paperwork.

I went to one in Cuba, it was a lot of fun. I don't really have any complaints about it.

I'm not having one, and I haven't been to one... but - my FH's cousin tried to have one and ended up cancelling it because nobody in his family could afford to attend. So that's all the input I have really.

As long as your family is well off, or you only want immediate family there, or can give them over a years notice - you should be fine Smiley smile

    P.S. Congrats on the engagement!

We are getting married in Punta Cana next April! The whole process so far has been incredibly easy and stress-free. We have an awesome travel agent that really takes care of our guests, and a wedding coordinator with the resort. We have about 48 guests attending and everyone is so excited!

Our plan is to have a welcome cocktail party the day after we arrive, then our beach ceremony two days later, followed by a semi-private dinner and private DJ at the resort club for the reception. Like Amanda suggested, we are getting legally married in Ontario 6 weeks before the wedding and Punta Cana is a symbolic ceremony. It's too much of a hassle to get everything done legally there!

I personally haven't attended a destination wedding knowing some of the family from my moms side has done it. One in Cancun and the other in Arizona. They both were Indian with multi functions during the week before the wedding itself.

The best thing about them is the fact guests can go site seeing to places around the area on their time and enjoy the view and the drive.

The resort you choose will allow them to let the families enjoy the beach, pools and activities during the day and night. Planning a time for everyone to meet and gather at a event will be fun and get them to join in the dance or some competition that is being held.

We are having a destination vow renewal in hawaii with only immediate family invited. in love destination weddings though.. you get a vacation and a beautiful wedding. i have been to one in Dominican and it was fun, however I am not a Dominican fan. I think you two should decide on the where and go from there. just be mindful that depending on where you go you might need to legally get married at home. I've always been to a destination wedding just in a different province and it was beautiful. there's a lot of great sites with endless info and agents to help you plan.
