Destination Wedding

Shannon, on November 5, 2018 at 17:54 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4
Hi there!
Does anyone have recommendations for a fairly priced resort in Jamaica to hold a destination wedding? Any tips to add on planning a destination wedding as well? Working with a travel agent is in my plans!

My mother stayed at a Riu and it wasn't too expensive when she went (April of 2018). I would steer clear of Sandals (as Vinod recommended) since it's VERY expensive.

    Good luck!

We stayed at Riu Reggae last year in Montego bay and it was beautiful. They have 3 resorts and if you stay on the 2 adults only ones you have access to all 3. We actually saw weddings at all 3 the resorts over the course of the week.

Beautiful resorts, all with different styles!

You should look into Sandals Resort since they are very popular in the Caribbean. I'm sure they have wedding packages and discounts for guests.

My cousin did a destination wedding to Mexico (Riviera Maya)... they essentially e-mailed her a booklet to select from her options for everything, and then she sent it back and that was it...

My one "word of caution" that you've probably already considered is: expect a very small guest list (especially in comparison to your at home wedding)... My cousin knew there'd be LOTS of family who wouldn't go... but she was disappointed by a few people who didn't go. Not everyone you expect would go will, and some people you wouldn't expect may decide to! Just don't get your hopes up on any particular guests attending the destination wedding.

Two notes while looking at resorts: One: definitely go all-inclusive... it's already a lot to spend for guests, and it's nice to just be able to get there and not have any additional expenses. Two: Make sure they don't do double occupancy charges (I think that's what it's called). So if you have any single guests, they don't pay twice as much as a couple (2 to a room vs 1 to a room). I went to my cousin's wedding alone, and I paid the same as everyone else, even though it was just me in the room.

I'd maybe visit some upcoming wedding shows in your area. I know here in Vancouver they always have some destination wedding specialists from travel agents... and they usually have tons of material on different resorts and packages!

    Good luck!
