Desperately trying to decide on veil

Sarah, on February 12, 2019 at 17:44 Posted in Wedding fashion 0 10
Hey everyone,
So up until now most of my planning has been reasonably painless, but choosing a veil has been a painful process. At first I thought I might not want to wear a veil at all and then I decided I do. I’d like a cathedral veil with a blusher. At first I thought I wanted a long blusher and now I’m starting to question whether I want a cathedral veil or floor length one. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how to choose. For some reason I feel like the veil is the most stressful part of planning for me so far!!!! Any advice or feedback would be great. FYI my dress is almost entirely lace and has a fairly ornate train so I’m planning to go with a sheer raw edge veil. thanks!

I think you need to go somewhere and put your dress on and just stick a bunch of different ones on your head.

Truthfully, I had zero desire to wear a veil.. I was pretty confident about that. When I found my dress the sales girl asked about veils and my friends and mom said I should try even if just for fun.. so I did and I fell in love with one of them...

It's all about what works with the dress..

    April 2019 bride here!

Consider booking an accessories appointment at your dress shop, to try on the various types of veils, and get an "overall" look so that you can make an informed decision.

I have only found 1 veil I like and its longer than I realized. My Mom and I are going to look at it and likely buy it today. The veil can always be shortened at the top by the comb. I can't try on my dress as I've gained 5 damn pounds after a night out at a fancy restaurant with my FH and my Parents. Yes I had wine and coors light as well as a perfect and stress free Evening. Anyways, I feel for me that I need to try veil, jewelry and dress all together. With our bridal shop owner letting us know how easy it is to shorten, I'd rather buy it and adjust later. I think cathedral length veils are dreamy!!! I hope you choose exactly what makes you glow 🤗

Thank you so much ladies. Yeah the biggest problem I’m having is worrying about whether or not a cathedral veil would be too dramatic for my venue. I’m planning for outdoors in which case it would be fantastic. If I get married indoors due to weather, then it’s a much smaller place and I’m afraid it will look over the top.

I'm actually going with two veils because I couldn't make up my mind!

For the ceremony/half of photos, I'm wearing a vintage style birdcage veil. For the other half of the photos/reception (up to first dance) I'm wearing a 1 tier finger-length veil.

    There's a few reasons I'm doing two:

    1. I love the vintage look the birdcage veil has, but I also didn't want to put up with it covering my face during the reception.

    2. I didn't want to "miss out" on wearing a veil so I got a used fingertip veil off of a local buy and sell group. It's sheer with some beading on the side

    3. My hairdresser is a good friend of mine who will be attending the wedding/offered to stick around for photos to make sure my hair behaves lol. She'll be able to assist with switching out the veils.

If you're wanting to feel like a princess on that day, go for the cathedral veil! I haven't bought one yet but I know I want one that's loooong Smiley smile

I have been struggling with this same thing as well. I think I have narrowed it down to the length now. I put my dress on and tried all the different veils and had my girl friends help me weed out what looked the best/worst with my dress. I was considering the venue, my dress style, MY personal style and whether or not I felt like a bride. My girlfriends opinions helped me tremendously. Best of luck Smiley smile

For me I really wanted one, but didn't know how long until I tried some on. I would say that the best option is to try some on with your dress! If you don't have your dress yet then perhaps you can use the one you tried on in the store? I personally love a good veil!! Just make sure it goes with the dress - I wouldn't wear a cathedral length veil with with a knee length wedding dress y'know?

Here's what I went with Smiley smile

I had a raw edge, one tier, cathedral length veil. It was simple, yet elegant and made me feel like a total princess. I loved it, and it made for some cute photo opps.

I wasn't sure about having the huge veil, then I wasn't sure about having it so plain, but it was perfect, and it didn't over power my dress, but it was still a total statement piece!
