Depressed bride - Need help finding a venue in the GTA

Shannon, on January 18, 2017 at 11:49 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 9

I have recently started looking for a venue & have found myself overwhelmed & depressed!

I thought this would be a fun & happy time.

I need a venue that has a tent option or a lot of windows with lots of natural light . I really want it to be bright . Nothing dark.

Golf courses seemed to be a good option until I found that most of them need to be upgraded … they all have yellow walls & green carpets!

All the venues that I like are out of my budget or have a $25g minimum requirement for Saturday nights.

I am looking for under $150 pp in the GTA area for approx. 110 guests.

Will go far west as Oakville, far east as Oshawa, far North as Newmarket.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I felt the same way when we first started looking, don't pressure yourself on finding a venue righy away. If the right venue comes you'll know and you'll feel it.. Enjoy the experience! Congrats!

Thanks everyone ! Much happier and less stressed today . We have narrowed it down to 3 venues .... the Doctors House , The Manor & The Royal Ambasador . Friday pricing was much more realistic & now I can have the venue I've always wanted !

You might want to check out Cambridge Ontario. They've got some interesting venues there !!!

As for being depressed, try not to let yourself get too bogged down in the details! Take a day off and don't think about wedding things. A day won't ruin your timeline and maybe a nice date night with your SO will get you excited about searching again

I agree with Melissa, try looking off season or a Friday night. I found that off season venues are much more flexible with their minimums (for example, my venue usually has a 75 guest minimum for the room, but it's only 60 in the off season).

A golf course definitely sounds like it will have what you're looking for overall. You can also try and hide obvious wall colour with decor and uplighting

I still think golf courses will be your best option. your guests won't really notice the wall colour or carpet, and even if they do, they know you didn't choose the colour.

A lot of venues have minimums for Saturday nights, and lower minimums for weekdays or Friday nights. Have you considered not hosting your wedding on a Saturday? $150 pp is a pretty healthy budget, it is just your "small" guest list that is causing the issue it seems!

You can also save significant money if you book in the off season rather than Summer- having an outdoor wedding this may not be an option for you though. Have you considered vineyards or restaurants with patios? Maybe look at the winery at holland marsh- I remember their pricing being very reasonable.

I think the Old Mill in Toronto also would fit what you are looking for- and it was stunning when I looked!

If not, I might suggest either boosting your budget for a venue you already like, or getting ready to make some concessions!
