Delusional or not?

Laurence Carrier 👰🏻, on April 22, 2019 at 23:38 Posted in Wedding reception 0 11
Hi! I would love to have an outdoor venue and reception (probably with a tent or something like that) with the beautiful colors of autumn! Am I totally delusional? And what month should I pick ? September or October ? Help!

I think as long as you have a back up plan (like a tent) if it rains or if it's not a nice sunny day out then it should be ok. Most weddings after September that I have been to haven't been great weather for an outdoor reception but it totally depends on the weather

I think before Thanksgiving, you’ll still be okay. Daytime is usually warm enough still. And, as long as guests know it’s outside, they can dress accordingly.

I guess it depends where you live and what time of year. We are doing an outdoor ceremony and reception in Moose Jaw in June 2020. We won't have a tent but there is an old gazebo that is the original dance hall from 1912. It has a couple of BBQ's built in. So we might light some charcoal in the evening to keep everyone warm.

Both would make for absolutely beautiful weddings. My mom and stepdad got married outside mid October just the ceremony and it was really cold. It depends where you live, this was Ontario so it honestly could have gone either way. Maybe you can have the reception inside but with an outside area that is open for whoever wants to go out there. If you pick September then I feel like you'd definitely be able to get away with an outdoor wedding, it should still be nice weather and just provide blankets or heaters for if it's cooler.

Weather in any month is unpredictable, so make sure you inform your guests that it will be an outdoor event and then it is also up to them to dress for it. The boxes of blankets is a good idea, I guess always prepare for a cold night and better to have heaters etc and not use them than not have them at all.

Definitely not delusional!! Weather is unpredictable all the time so you could get a warm spell in October or it's super chilly by September.

With some planning, you can totally pull it off! I would have some tent heaters for the reception just in case it is a colder night.

My wedding ceremony and reception are both outside. We are getting married September 23rd. The reception is under a covered atrium though and has a fireplace and outdoor heaters so it should be warm still. I would maybe leave a basket of blankets though for guests if it’s too cold.

Not delusional at all! We planned for an outdoor ceremony and reception (ended up changing the reception to inside due to by law issues with the noise) but when we were planning this is the trouble we were having as well.

September can be unpredictable when it comes to weather, but so can October. If you are looking for fall colours, closer to the end of September or early October would be the best. If you are doing it in October, maybe plan to have some heaters for guests during the reception that way its not too chilly

I can't speak for those who live in Quebec, but here in Manitoba last year we had a streak of really cold weather in September - and there still weren't fall colours on the trees!!

I chose to have my wedding October 5th as either the leaves should have changed by then or the branches will be leaf-less which I would prefer in comparison to green leaves.

    Not delusional at all!!

I would say to keep September and October in mind and see what dates are available once you find a venue that you and your FH are in love with!

(But as of right now, keep in mind that Sept. 7th is Labour day & Oct. 12th is Thanksgiving day. Also, keep in mind about when Aunt Flo will be visiting unless you don't care about that for the big day!)

Both are very pretty- if you are wanting an autumn look, I would pick September as I have attended outdoor weddings in this month and it gets very cold at night. One was Sept 21st of last year and I had to change into pants by supper time because of how cold it was. I went to another weekend before and it was completely outside and it was nice enough I was able to stay in dress.
