Decorator, day-of coordinator or something else?

Lucy, on April 10, 2019 at 12:00 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 5

So, I'm not quite sure what to call the vendor I'm looking for or if they even exist. Our decorations are either being supplied by our venue or by ourselves. The venue has said they will set up as much as they can, but they don't really do the finishing touches. Obviously I'm going to be a little busy getting ready to make sure our guestbook has been put out etc and I don't want to burden any friends or family with this duty.

I think what I'm looking for is a "decorator-lite". Like I want their time to set up the room but I don't need their stuff. Are there decorators that do that? Is what I want more of a day-of coordinator even though I only want them for a couple of hours? Would I be better off looking for a college student who wants to earn $100?

I think you are talking about a day of coordinator. We have one included with our venue rental and she will be greeting all the vendors as they arrive and letting them know where to set up, etc. She will also be putting up or decorations and whatever else we don't have time to set up the night before. Two girls in my bridal party have their boyfriends coming with them to our rehearsal dinner and both boyfriends have offered to help our DOC set everything up the morning of while us girls are getting ready so maybe this is an option?

Day of Coordinator! We have hired someone and like instantly our first meeting with her we felt soooooo much at ease with all of the small decorations and ideas we want set up the day of! The venue will set up tables and chairs and likely linens... but when it comes to any DIY stuff or yes little details like guest books you'll need someone else to help with that!

Day of Coordinator is the person you want to do the work for you and have their people that work with them to help set up. They would require a venue hall diagram of what is going where and being done in a way of materials and centerpieces. Though it may feel a burden on family/friends, they don't mind helping if you ask. Your wedding party is also at your side to help if needed.

My in laws helped with just putting the coloured water beads and immersable lights in the vases and by table number before the reception started. It was helpful as we were getting our photos done outdoors.

I agree with Allison on this- I had actually hired one and she was going to do all the final touches from picking up flowers for center pieces and organizing them, being contact for all vendors, helping set up late lunch, many other things.

I think you might be looking for more of a day-of coordinator who can make sure the finishing touches are put out. You can also enable the help of someone too. I know you said you don’t want to burden family/friends, but someone might be willing to help out with this and save money!
