Decor booking/rentals

Elizabeth, on January 4, 2021 at 12:11 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 3

Hi everyone!

As a new year approaches (and hopefully an amazing 2021 for all) we can all agree, or hoping, that this time around all weddings and events will be a go ahead!

My fiancé and I got engaged in April 2020 and having a July 2022 wedding, and we pretty much booked all major things such as the hall, church, DJ etc,. The only thing we have left to do is decor, flowers, dresses/suits, cake and other little details.

My question is when do we start booking decor and rentals? My fear is with COVID pushing back a lot of 2020 weddings, many of these decor companies will be on overdrive. We are getting married in Vaughan (Toronto) Ontario and as an organized person, I would like to get input on when to start booking decor.

THANK YOU! Smiley heart

I would wait. Depending on the company, you wouldn't want to give someone money and see them close down between now and 2022. It doesn't hurt to browse and "window shop" but there's no real reason I see for you to put a down payment and commit at this moment.

And most things stay in fashion, like wall drapes and floral arches (based on my experience attending weddings the past five years) but some things could be more "on trend" as Amelia suggests.

I think if you know what you want and are in a financial situation where you can afford a down payment you might as well book soon. I totally agree that the 2020 wedding season (or lack thereof) will have a ripple effect on the next few years so you might as well book if you can!

My biggest fear if it were me would be that some of the items I booked might be a 2020 trend and might be dated by 2022 (for example will geometric arches be old news, will you still want a flower wall, will you hate mason jars and burlap), so I would see if you are booking specific items or if you're locking in their services and general decor items for the date.

It’s never too early to start Smiley smile I’d get it done and over with whenever possible... with that being said, I personally want to see things in person and not just photos. So perhaps wait until the restrictions are lifted?
