Day of coordinator

Melissa, on June 10, 2019 at 22:36 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 7
I'm looking at areas where I can keep costs down. I would like a day of coordinator, but feel like they are just too expensive. Anyone do their wedding without DOC and how did you manage? I'm pretty good at managing things myself, but it's my day and cant stay on top of everything myself.

If you can't hire someone to do it I would see if a family member or two can do it. Our DOC helped by organizing all the vendors as they arrived, helped the guests find their seats and answered any questions they had. She also helped to keep my husband and I from seeing each other the whole morning as well.

It's something that you can assign to someone else and you shouldn't have any problems Smiley smile

I'm not going out and hiring an additional vendor, but my venue has a point person I've been working with who has all our other vendors' contact info and is in charge of anything venue related (includes most decor and all of catering/bartending). Our vendors will have her contact info, as well as my godmother's and my honourary mom's (my mom's bff) contact info, who are the decorating team and know the vision I have. My dad will probably help out as well, since he used to work at the venue as well and knows how weddings are run there. My mom used to work there too, but will be with us the morning of getting ready.

Between those 4 people, I'm sure the wedding will go smoothly.

I am not having one - a little concerned about that because I am usually the DOC for friends weddings and events and such (not professionally, I am just a commando organized person so they know they can use my skillset) so who is going to be me on my wedding day?! However I've expressed these concerns to my bridal party and I know I can rely on them for most things BUT ofcourse there are moments that they need to be elsewhere etc so anyway, my MoH step mom offered to help out with this! Her dad is going to be our MC, and she offered to keep things organized and get the decor set up etc etc. I am very close with her family so lucky there.

Anyway my point is that perhaps there is someone in your circle who can help take care of this? Just get them a thank you gift and ensure you give them a shoutout!

I can't justify the cost for this either.

I mean, I find that when you wait until closer to the wedding that the vendors that are left are willing to reduce the price as they either get a job for less or no job at all - but I'm sure that as long as you have all the papers that you would normally give the DOC that even some of your BM's would be able to step up.

I had originally booked one and she canceled. I had someone I wanted to have in wedding party but it would have been too many people. I asked her to step up an do things needed and it was mainly just few things during cocktail hour and few other places. She was more than happy to help.

Thanks for your input Kelsie. I was thinking of doing the same! I did hear a lot of success stories and it's easier to manage if you dont have too many vendors to deal with on the day of. Lucky for me, itll probably only be 2 or 3.

I’m not having one for the same reason - I just can’t justify the cost.

Im using lists as my best friend. Tackling one job as I go along. On the day of, I will rely on family or a close friend to check on things inside (decor, flowers etc.) to make sure all is ok.
