My dj and his wife are also our day of coordinators (they include it in their pricing). I am really glad to have them just from the perspective of different ideas, laying out the day of timeline. and will be our contact day of. if it was included in his dj services, I probably would not have hired one. I would have asked a good friend to do it.

I was a day of coordinator for a friend. so she gave all her vendors my cell number and gave me a list of the vendors/phone numbers. it worked great as she didn't have any phone calls going to her.

Honestly, I don't have that much to coordinate/set-up, so it's costing me $100 to pay for an extra night hotel stay for my cousin and his girlfriend, and they are going to the venue in the morning to set up the favours, signs & centrepieces. Aside from that, the venue does the rest (tables, place settings, linens, etc)...

Depending on how much you have to 'coordinate', you may not need to break the bank with a professional DOC... but if you have a few vendors, and any of those are florists and/or decor set-up, then yes, it can be very beneficial to have one go-to person with no connection to the wedding.

I haven't had my wedding yet so I don't have any experience to share - but the price tag on my DOC/MOC was $1,000. I think that hiring one has to do with what they have to offer though. If I was having my wedding inside the city where I have cell phone reception then I wouldn't have gone with one. As it were, we are getting married about 45 minutes outside the city in Elma MB and there is NO cell phone reception. Plus my DOC/MOC is also the venue owner so any problem that arises she should know exactly how to handle it and what can and cannot be done. Also, it can't hurt to have her on my side right?
