Dance Lessons ... highly recommend

Jennifer, on July 9, 2018 at 11:19 Posted in Before the wedding 0 10
I'm counting myself very fortunate that my darling future husband not only agreed to take dance lessons, but suggested it! We started at the Fred Astaire studio in Hamilton and were matched up with Rianna. OMG, she couldn't be more perfect to be the one teaching us. Learning the tango, rumba, foxtrot, swing, and the waltz (which is our first song ... to The Rainbow Connection as sung by who else... but Kermit).
It's an added expense but it's offering another way to connect ... and for that, it's priceless.

It's so much fun! We've been going to lessons for a couple years, just as an activity. We can latino dance like crazy, which is super fun, but not really weddingish! Smiley winking

We're doing this too! More as like a fun date kind of thing every now and then. We're not looking to have a fully choreographed first dance or anything. Mostly for basic steps and holding technique Smiley smile

Hi Julia, as a professional dancer and instructor, I can tell you that definitely don't limit yourself to one dance style. Anywhere you go, you won't just hear one style of music. If you are going to a Salsa party, they'll play Salsa, Bachata, Merengue and even Cha Cha. If you are going to a wedding or a corporate event, you are likely to hear lots of Rumba, Hustle, Swing, Foxtrot and Waltz... Plus, all dance styles of the same family (latin and ballroom) have the same patterns and moves, so it's easy to learn multiple dance styles at the same time.

I guess it really depends. We have opted to register for dance lessons and are learning several dances now (cha cha, waltz, tango, foxtrot, rumba and the swing)

Do you feel like learning just one style of dance would be enough? or would you recommend learning more than one? neither me nor my fiancé are much for being gifted dancers

Good advice! We didn’t but our first dance was pretty much the same thing! Haha. Which was fine for me just not very entertaining I’m sure. Glad you had a great time!

My FH is being deployed before the wedding but if we can work it out we definitely will look into it. I am not a great dancer so I may look into it either way lol

That’s such a great idea! My FH wanted to do dance lessons as well! Now that we changed our wedding plans, we won’t be having a dance, so we don’t need too. But I agree, the experience and closeness would be great for any couple! Good on you both!
