Current Wedding Planning Mood.

Tinaka, on September 11, 2019 at 00:20 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 12
Wedding planning gives me such Anxiety.
Like I have no idea what I want for a theme or colours.
I want things simple and I dont want a lot so the limestone walls speak for themselves but I also want it to still look like a wedding and that I actually did put effort into decorations.
I don't want my wedding to look like a cookie cutter wedding! I find myself not liking typical decorations for weddings.
But then what center pieces should I have?
And how do I tie everything together so it looks nice and not cluttered (literally though)?
Most importantly how do I do what I want and not have to start selling organs?
And just, someone please help me.

    Thanks so much!

I'm also not going with a planner, its not in my budget. I plan on having a girls night soon with my friends were I plan to sit down and help them wrap my brain around some things and brainstorm ideas lol

I want to eliminate so many traditional wedding things that I personally feel unnecessary, I think that's my struggle. Searching wedding in pinterest and being like " but no i don't want flowers" or mason jars with candles.

Maybe I need to stop using the word wedding.

Ive been feeling like this since we got engaged over a year ago, which is why its taken me this long to actually buckle down and seriously start lol.

I think once I figure out what I actually want the groups will be more helpful.

I knew what I wanted from the beginning, but I also struggled with not wanting a cookie-cutter wedding. I also don't want to over-decorate (especially the ceremony space!)

My colours are turquoise and purple - similar to Tori, but I went all out on the peacock theme! I thought it was (still is) unique, not overly done, and the 2 main colours speak to me. I'm actually not having a professional decorator, as I (and others) are doing DIY for centerpieces, signage, and alter arrangements. My godmother is a master bow-maker and is making bows for the ceremony/reception spaces using those colours.

There's this quiz on The Knot website that I remember taking to help determine what looks I like, they just showed me images and I picked from them. Sort of like a streamlined Pinterest options board. At the end of it the results gave me an idea of my preferences and actually really helped calm my scattered brain Smiley smile

You are not alone. I think everyone on here has been there during the early planning stages.

My Pinterest board was huge (Over 200 pins) when I got engaged. It took a long time to narrow everything down. Having a venue is a good start! You have your main space and things will slowly start coming together. Take it one day at a time!

Pinterest is great, but just put your own spin on the things that you see.

Join buy and sell groups on Facebook. I am in a couple and they have been life savers!

Planning process has huge massive decisions to make and how to look at the view of the overall look. Start a board to get ideas of what colours you like and match it with metallic choices you think will look good. Doesn't have to be sequins or shiny if you don't like those materials. Once you start that part, the rest will come into play of what flowers you may like to choose to go with your colours and décor based on the theme (rustic, modern, romantic, shows, etc.).

This board will now allow you to start looking into how you want to get your purchases and rentals booked based on the best quotes chosen over top 3 selected vendors. One key word is BUDGET you set for how you see the best value without going over.

A tip that may be helpful is consider the local market of facebook, kijji and any other sites you know to see if there is offers that will be less than the retail market. The other is looking into rental stores to save less than full price retail décor and wedding dress if you feel you don't want to keep them after your event and store them for a long period of time due to space.

Don't let anxiety get you overwhelmed, just be calm, cool and collective while being organized at the same time. Keep a folder/binder with sheets of what you need to get and budget set to your max. WW has 3 amazing features under Planning Tools which you can use too, they are Budget and Checklist to ensure your on the right path and months wise of what to look into. The last one is Vendors that will allow you to see through the companies to get inquire pricing of their services given a discount being a member of this site. Check them out and hopefully they come handy to you.

Omg im the complete opposite i know exactly what i want and where etc! dont stress! hire a decor person and tell them youre looking for something simple and to show you examples! they can put together something simple for you. There are SOOO many centerpiece choices instead of typical flower or candles in vases you can do candelabras with long candles or hanging jewels. ive also seen a lot of people doing really nice lanterns or birdcages as centerpieces as well. lots of options!! most importantly about price is shop around. i literally sent out 50 emails to decor places and met with 3 that were in my price range and i got ALL the decor i wanted. so just shop around and dont stress girl!!

Your post literally captures my entire mental state when I started planning the wedding, and it is ok!!

You've secured your venue which is fantastic! I ended up going on Pinterest to see if any colour schemes popped out at me. I really liked the light gray/pale blue concept and so far - I've stuck with it!

You don't necessarily need to pick a theme/colour scheme right now. I actually booked things based off of how fast I thought vendors would be booked up. After I locked in my venue, I researched photographers (and videographers if you're interested in one) and I locked them in. We next booked our DJ then I got my dress, and my bridesmaids dresses, etc.

Decor and florals were actually one of the last things I did.

I am NOT a creative person, which is my biggest problem. I also don't have a planner so it's not like I had someone to tell me oh this would look nice, etc. I looked up my venue on Instagram, to get an idea of what other couples did and what I was drawn to. I had a super simple idea and then I went to my florist and explained what I liked/didn't like, etc. and she actually ended up also signing on for my decor! She really helped me find something I liked.

This post is a super long winded way of saying, don't necessarily worry about decor right now - you can do some other things while you do research and figure out what you like/don't like. If it's in your budget, I totally recommend getting a florist/decor person to help you. I found my florist to be so helpful!

I agree with Rayanne - market place is a huge help as well as local wedding groups! That way you can just snag their ideas and the decor!

Me and my FH couldn't think of a theme that we could agree on so we went with our favourite colours- teal and plum, and then because we don't like the peacock look we chose an accent colour that would help make it feel more like fall (copper).

Try and make a list and then just pinterest away until you find something that you like and build off of it.

I would seriously watch your local marketplace. You can get some great ideas for a great price. This time of year you'll be looking at fall type colours which may be perfect for you if you like them. Not much you can do about venue price except keep guest list smaller.

Don't stress. Honestly I had settled on a colour scheme and it ended up going out the window. Now it's just kind of greens and blues in varying shades. Our theme is succulents but we did end up using other flowers as well. As long as nothing clashes and you know the general look you are going for it will come together. Do your research before jumping into anything and I guarantee you will find budget friendly options. For example it took us several months to book a DJ because everyone was over $2000 and I didn't want to pay that but we eventually found the people we hired for $500. So there are cheaper options if you look hard enough.
