covid Wedding Ideas

Samantha, on February 15, 2021 at 10:03 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8
Hi everyone!
With the potential of no dancing at weddings due to restrictions, what are some things you incorporated to fill the time? I have heard some people hired a comedian, karaoke, etc. What is everyone planning or has done?
Thanks!!

We're hoping to have just us, our parents and siblings (9 of us in total) for a backyard reception dinner in Toronto, Ontario. Any guests beyond that would just be invited for the ceremony (including speeches + 1st dances). If we're limited to 5 people only for dinner, we'd probably have to cancel that and stick to ceremony only... even just us and our parents would be 6 people. But we feel confident at least 10 will be allowed for ceremony and dinner by June. I feel like wedding planning during covid has been an exercise on continually lowering our expectations until we hit rock bottom LOL. I hope it works out for all of us covid brides though!

Thank you! That’s a great idea. Just curious, how many people are you anticipating at your reception? According to our venue in red zone here in Ontario we are looking at 5 ... so possibly just having ceremony now Smiley sad us COVID couples really had to deal with a lot!!

We haven't had our wedding yet but are planning to go ahead this June. I was having the same worry as you intially, but I think it's best to try to accept it will be a shorter evening, and most guests will probably just be thrilled to catch up and mingle from a safe distance after not seeing each other for so long. We are considering is a video/slideshow presentation from our travel/hiking adventures from our past 3 years together, and also the always entertaining "shoe game". (If you've never heard of the shoe game, here's a description: https://www.brides.com/wedding-shoe-game-5084479 )

I am struggling with this. It’s hard to imagine a long reception with no dancing/mingling and I don’t want people making the trip/ spending all the money for a short evening. But I need help with ideas!! Interested in hearing what brides did last year!

LOL, sorry the figure of speech probably didn't translate well over text. But yeah, filling time in spots with inactivity is one thing but it's hard to stretch the wedding out naturally without dancing and I personally would prefer to just let things naturally conclude than adding random activities in the end to stretch the night out.

Pretty sure dancing games and musical chairs would be banned under most covid rules.

We're going to incorporate online style party games each guest can easily access on the phone. Things like pictionary and trivia that will be projected on a big screen.

To be honest, there's no need to stretch the party time or find ways to keep guests hostage. If the event naturally ends at a certain hour, let it end.

Games at tables can be played to keep guests entertained that too by names for tables as your concept. Tiara game to find under each table per 1 table and all winners get a prize. Dancing games can be entertaining or musical chairs for guests that feel they want to get involved and family. Some ideas to keep busy while waiting and having that gap in between filled.
