Cottage as a venue??

Hey everyone!
My fiancée and I are having a very hard time finding a venue for our very small wedding for next fall. A lot of venues have minimums that we just can't meet or afford. We're only having 40-60 people there and we want it to be a fun, casual and unique experience. Among other things, we were thinking of renting a lakeside cottage for the weekend and setting up a ceremony/reception area there? Has anyone had experience with this sort of wedding?
Any other suggestions for venues would be amazing as well! We're in the Niagara region.Thanks !!

We had the same problem. Our wedding is even smaller, only 30 people. Many venues were just too big. I didn't want one small table in a huge place. We ended up booking a garden/farm that hosts weddings. They have a small barn that was the perfect size for us. Originally I was looking at cottages as well. If you havent already found something you can search on www.cottagesincanada.com. I found some nice places on there!
