Cost of wedding officiant .

Kelsey, on May 22, 2018 at 18:40 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8

Hello.

Ive all together stopped planning my wedding as of right now because I AM SO STRESSED. I am planning a super laid back wedding, the ceremony being in a park, and the reception being in my parents backyard. I have so far booked the venue space, and a porta potty, as well as begun to make small purchases for decorations and ect. However I feel like the next biggest thing i need to book is the officiant. All of them are around $500 and that is not in my budget! I had one girl let me know that it would be about $150 for her because its such a casual wedding but i accidentally deleted the message and i am now beating myself up for ( forgot her name)

any ideas for cheaper alternatives? me and my FH thought about getting married in the courthouse the week before and then having one of our family members just read what the officiant would read but idk

We thought that was a option but that isn’t true. That is not legal in Ontario.

Your really need to check the validity and if the company offering to license you is also licensed in ontario, canada. most courses to become a licensed ontario officiant will cost you money. make sure "they" are licensed in the province, AND, that you will be licensed by the ONT. Govt. as well. Too many say you can be licensed through them, and they aren't legit. and if you don't know the marriage will not be recognized to be legal and you might find your self scrambling to get a lawyer for more reasons than you can afford......

We went through AEIC weddings in Ontario. They have officiants all over the province who are religious or not religious. Our standard package was $300 all in including travel. Still expensive, but more reasonable.

That does NOT include the Marriage Licence - that is an additional $150ish depending on where you get yours from.

You can’t just go online and become a licensed officiant in Ontario.

Wedding officiants and all the paperwork involved is so expensive! I agree..
For the paperwork it's around $200 maybe more I can't even remember anymore. The our officiant is $400+travel fee+rehearsal fee (we are totally cool with it because she was the officiant we really really wanted!).
Maybe go to your local city hall and find out how much it would be to do a one day officiant license for a friend or family member.

p.s we have the same wedding date!!!

If a family member is willing to go online and become a licensed officiant. This way you save the cost of hiring one.

Unfortunately I don’t think you will find one for much cheaper. We are hiring an officiant and what we have been looking at seem to range from 350-500. I wouldn’t count on city hall being much cheaper. The chapel at our city hall charges about $350. Some people will do a very simple “I do” basically just the legal stuff for a bit cheaper.

I have also read to be very cautious about anyone to offering it super cheap. They could not be properly licensed to marry you, or they could “ghost you” and just disappear after getting a deposit. You need to do your research, read reviews on people and not worry just about the price or you could end up with a no show or not actually being legally married.

I would cut back on whatever you can, less decorations whatever so you can afford the officiant. They are after all the most important part of tor wedding.

Ouuuu that sucks! I'm so sorry you lost that number! i know the feeling and it honestly feels horrible!

We're having a very traditional catholic wedding, and our priest is about 375-400$ (they call it making a donation lol)

how about contacting the courthouse to see if they can be on location? would it still be 500$ how did you get into contact with that officiant you wanted? maybe we can back peddle and little and find her again Smiley smile
