Community Hall Decorations

Alyssa, on February 20, 2020 at 00:40 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 8

To save money, we are thinking of renting a community hall as our reception venue, but I am stuck on how we will be able to spruce it up. We can't hang anything on the sound boards, sticking things to the walls are okay, and the ceiling is super high with no rafters to hang lights from. It's not like the hall is awful, but it is boring. I am not a visual person, so I have been on pinterest, but looking for more ideas due to the restrictions.

How high is the ceiling? Can one touch it using a ladder or does it require a lift?

You don't need rafters for lights as long as ceilings have rigging points and from there, you can also hang drapery, florals, etc. Since you're going rustic and you're getting married next year, buy some discounted Christmas trees after Dec 25.

Blank white walls make for great projection space to showcase videos and slideshows.

We are having our reception in the church my FH grew up going to and we had the same issue. So when we booked our DJ we got the package that included a monogram and uplights to spruce things up a bit. We are also getting a backdrop for behind the head table to cover up the outdated stage curtains. Other than that, the hall will be dimmed and everything will be lit up by artificial tea lights (last thing I want is a fire haha) so it will cover up the bland colours of the hall.

Rent a backdrop from a decor company. also they have tons of stand alone decor. you can have his and her chairs (like white sparklie ones) chair covers, sashes etc.. table decor can be very ncie as well like a candelabra.

Try renting some pipe and drape for the walls, that way you can cover up boring wall space while adding texture and something for you to hang stuff on.

    Hi Alyssa,

I am doing the same for my wedding. We are renting a centre to save and we are also have a rustic chic wedding but with a lavender purple with some blue accents.
We aren’t sure yet if we will be hanging from the ceilings as we are looking at two different places still. However, don’t underestimate the power of centrepieces and other ground decorations.
My wedding will be mostly a dance with finger foods so once the DJ gets going nobody will be looking at any lights on the ceiling as the DJ will have their lighting going.
However, for a sit down dinner if you want something to have lighting higher you could always have lights on the walls. I’ve been to weddings where they have lights that sit on the ground but shiny up the walls. You could look for those in your lights!
Another thing, if you can’t find anything for up high that isn’t the end of the world. There’s plenty you can do with the ground space!

Use taller centerpieces instead of something lower. Will help “fill the room” and bring in some dimension. Amazon has free standing photography backdrop holders for cheap use something like that to create a backdrop maybe a flower wall or just drape some fabric and string some lights up. Go to thrift stores and maybe get like old furniture to use as display tables so cake table on a rustic dresser or card box in an old school wheelbarrow. Also see if your venue with allow command strips to hang things - they are removable and don’t leave marks so you can hang some lights. Ambient lighting is always great so if they allow candles add some of that.

What i have done to shown pictures for others is by looking at images of your colours decor choice on the internet. It does help to know what you want to do and in what what way.

Oh, and our theme is rustic, chic with dusty blue and rose colors.
