We just want to have a simple cocktail party for our reception but it seems impossible to arrange. Most hotels have their own wedding packages.

Has anyone here planned a cocktail party for their wedding?

Yess sounds like that would be the route to go. I just thought it would be nice to coordinate it all together (food and venue at the same place like a hotel) rather than having to coordinate outside rentals, catering staff etc. Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like a fun time

Ours was not just a cocktail party but we hosted a reception dinner party at a fancy condo downtown in the party room where we essentially just paid the space rental fee. We brought in all of our own vendors, catering staff, bartender, tables, linens, band, etc. So, might fall along your same idea? The room was equipped with a bar/kitchen and terrace so it suited us and the staff nicely.
