Cocktail hour after ceremony with no reception

Cassidy, on February 12, 2021 at 03:32 Posted in Plan a wedding 0 4
Hello,

We are looking at re-planning our May 23 2021 wedding for the 3rd time. We went from 150 to 50 people and now we are planning to cancel tje reception. We are hopeful to have an outdoor cocktail hour directly after the ceremony for a couple speeches and a first dance. I’m hoping we can do a 12pm ceremony with 1230-3 for speeches and mingling with some appies (pending restrictions). Has anyone done something like this? If so, is 1230-3 enough time for everyone to mingle, eat and speeches? I don’t want to leave too much time since people will be outside at the end of May but also don’t want it to seem rushed.

The time frame of your wedding and finger food/alcohol seems right for the hours and no more since your guests may not stay for the whole time. Genevieve's point of lawn games may be enjoyed for many if they do want something to do for activities.

I would push things to outside of a typical meal time unless you're willing to pay for enough appies so that everyone can have enough to constitute a meal.

That sounds about right. Most cocktail receptions wrap up after close to 3-4 hours so you’d be on track. If you’re offering drinks/snacks but nothing else other than speeches, some of your guests may cut out early. If that’s ok for you, do it! If you want them to hang around a bit, maybe have something else they can do to keep them occupied (I’m personally a huge fan of lawn games lol)

I was wondering it's something that's possible aswell. Our ceremony is outside and I was thinking maybe a little cocktail hour hatter would be nice. I hate to think my guest will come and watch the ceremony only and leave.
