Choosing Your Venue

Amanda, on January 7, 2021 at 12:02 Posted in Plan a wedding 2 21

Lets talk about venues! How many venues did you research and look at before picking "the one"? What made you and your fiance decide on your venue choice?

My fiance and I had talked about wedding planning before we had even gotten engaged. It was just a topic that had come up one night. I had told him I really didn't want to get married in a church and I didn't want to get married in the current city we're living in. He totally agreed with me. I wanted to go away for our wedding.

I had suggested Kelowna BC where I grew up as a kid. I had always thought that I would get married in this city. It's always had my heart. I've had this one winery in my mind for a very long time and my family and I always go there every summer. It's called Summerhill Pyramid Winery. Beautiful scenery, it's just absolutely breathtaking! Once I had shown my fiance pictures of what the venue looked like and what it offered, we were both completely sold on the idea of getting married in Kelowna! We didn't look at any other places! We had sent an email about a week after we had gotten engaged to the winery and put a deposit down for our wedding date!

That's exactly what we were looking at too when we had first looked into the winery. Good price, food and view!

Beautiful venue as some couples have booked there too.

We booked an venue that had everything for a great price, food and view of the ceremony and reception in 1 place for guests to enjoy family activities within the area. Welcome dinner wasn't far from the venue itself too. It was my husbands choice of knowing the area and views that really had everyone loving it. I did compare another venue very close to us wanting double the price based different rates from children to adults with open bar and main course to pay for each. It was said for 4 course meal though they lied about one of it being paid to have served.

It’s called Grand Imperial Banquet and Conference Centre just off the Sherwood park freeway! Thank you, we’re very excited about it 😊

You all will probably think I'm nuts but we researched and got quotes for 25 venues via email, and then chose 12 to visit in-person based on the quote and offering. We narrowed it down to 2 final contenders based on those visits and then I plopped everything into a crazy spreadsheet that cost analyzed every conceivable menu option and add-ons for the two venues to help us decide our final pick lol. Though it may seem like we spent an insane amount of time going to places, it actually only took us four days because we lumped appointments with places in the same geographical area in each day. I mean, if you're going to visit one venue in Vaughan, you might as well hit the whole banquet hall row right?

Since we were originally planning a winter wedding, we knew we wanted to stay in the GTA for ease of travel in harsh weather (and ease of access for non-drivers so a taxi ride wouldn't break the bank). We were looking at any venue that can house all our events, from family pre-wedding rituals to the ceremony and reception in order to eliminate travelling in between during potential bad weather while having access to an outdoor space for quick winter landscape photos. We looked at hotels, golf courses, marinas, country clubs, wineries, banquet halls, restaurants, and nightclubs. Each came with their own pros and cons and we narrowed it down to 2 places after our visits.

Our venue was amongst the first five we saw and after the visit, we knew it was the one any future contenders needed to beat. It had everything we wanted: exclusivity of space so no other weddings besides our there that day; separate rooms for all our events and activities so no room flip required; outdoor options for photos (and now, ceremony since we have moved to the late summer/early fall); close to home and a ton of other amenities like hotels and dollar store/pharmacy/bakery/grocery store/Fabricland/McDonalds for any crazy last minute needs; floor to ceiling windows (a bonus); and a variety of menu options with customization available.

The winery looks gorgeous! I always thought I'd get married in a winery in the Okanagan area, I spent most of my summers there as a kid.

When my fiance and I got engaged though we decided to stay in Edmonton given that that's where most of our family is so I started researching a bunch venues and narrowed it down to three. As soon as we visited the first one, we were set on it Smiley love

I looked at probably 6 different place on-line but we only visited the venue we are with. I was looking at price for sure. We wanted a place for out of town people to stay the night, we wanted everything done at one place and I love the food that we will have. It sealed the deal. With a winter wedding it was really important to have as little driving as possible for the day.

That is what matters the most is that you're happy wherever you decide to get married! Everyone is different and that is ok! It's awesome that you're booking everything early! Because vendors do fill up super fast. Our venue and some of our vendors were booking 2 years in advance when we booked in 2018

Thank you!! Its definitely not as stunning as your location but it is perfect for us! Plus we still have to find a ceremony location and that will be stunning! I want to get a head start on booking the important things before any 2021 weddings get postponed! Crossing my fingers that doesn't happen though!!

We researched about 10 local venues and looked at 3! We have been engaged for 2.5 weeks and have booked the venue for our May 2022 wedding! What sold us on the venue was the price and kitchen it comes with! The space is very basic and simple so we can really decorate it to suit our needs and the bug kitchen it has will make it easier for the caterer we are using!

My fiancee and I had planned to see about a handful of venues, but we both knew when we went to see the one we ultimately picked, that is was THE one for us.
We are having our ceremony outdoors at the Canmore Ranch and then reception at Cornerstone Theatre. When we did a site tour, we were lucky enough to do it on a day where they had the Theatre already set up for a wedding and it literally took my breath away with how perfect it was. As we were driving away from the venue, we couldn't stop talking about how amazing it was and how we could already picture having our wedding there.

It's always nice to go back to your roots and where you're familiar. I also love that you go there with your family every year, makes it even more special! Our venue is Meadow Gardens Golf Club in Pitt Meadows, never been before, but works for me! Fingers crossed Smiley ring

Thank you! I'm beyond excited to be getting married in my home town!

Beautiful venue! Which golf course is this?! I love golf course weddings!

Yeah I hear on that about things closing because of covid. Scary times. We're super lucky that the winery is still up and running! Crossing my fingers that your wedding goes as planned! As well as mine in August Smiley heart

I love that winery, such a good choice!!

We had also talked about our wedding for a while before getting engaged, however we ended up going with something completely different than originally thought.

Once we got engaged, the venues that I had my eye on previously had been forced to close during covid! That completely threw me through a loop. We did some research and we looked at two venues before deciding on our current one, a golf course. We love the mountains in the backdrop, and I couldn't be happier!
